For any one that wants Ibanez

Lookout Landing is a Mariners Blog. Aside from having to support the Mariners, there is some hilarious shit there.

My favorite is their sidebar with saved images of Raul Ibanez making horrific plays. Fully awesome.

I don't want Ibanez. I don't really want Abreu either. If we're gonna take bad D, I'll take Dunn. At least he's younger and has substantial power. To tell you the truth, I'm not really enamored with any of the LH free agents out there, so maybe a trade is the way to go.

But does he drop routine fly balls like Soriano does with regularity?

Like I care. If we had his bat in October, we may have won some games. It's just like Manny. Average to subpar in the outfield, but his bat will make up for it when it matters. His defense isn't going to be why we go home in October, but his bat might keep us playing.

<!--quoteo-->QUOTE <!--quotec-->Bet you didn't know that since rejoining the Mariners prior to the 2004 season, Ibanez has the second-most outfield assists (44) in the American League, one fewer than the Blue Jays' Alex Rios.

"I take great pride in my defense," said Ibanez prior to Saturday's game against the Indians. "There are two sides to this game, and defense, to me, is a huge responsibility. Not only are you responsible for your job on the field for the team, but also for the guys on the mound. They depend on you. They need you to do your job."

Ibanez has seven assists this season, tied for seventh in the AL, and has committed four errors. He might not be a serious threat to win a Gold Glove for defensive excellence, something teammate Ichiro Suzuki has done for seven consecutive seasons, but Ibanez's "D" is more than adequate.

"I think he is well-noted for his offense, and that is basically what you think of first with him," Mariners first base-outfield coach Eddie Rodriguez said, "but he's always working on some aspect of his defense. He works hard at it."<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->

Also, he can be had for probably a 2-3 year deal. Most of the other OFs on the market probably want to be locked down for at least 4 years, and we just aren' going to do that.

<!--quoteo-->QUOTE <!--quotec-->Braves could leave Vegas with Ibanez

The Atlanta Braves have been particularly aggressive on Raul Ibanez as they have been with pitcher A.J. Burnett, to whom they reportedly extended a four-year, $64 million offer with an easily attainable fifth year option.<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->
