Kerry Wood To The Tribe
#1
I know it was talked about in another thread, but I felt it deserved it's own. I'm happy with this.

<!--quoteo-->QUOTE <!--quotec-->–The Indians have signed off on Kerry Wood’s medical report and will likely announce the signing of the free-agent right-hander either today or Wednesday.<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->

If not with the Cubs, this was my preferred destination for Woody.

I'm happy for him. Go Tribe!

I will be tuning in every time he faces the Sox and will be rooting my ass off for him.

I'm just REALLY glad he's not with the Brewers. That would have seriously sucked ass.
I got nothin'.

It's sounding like Daisy Fuentes will be that one now.

I'm pretty sure I'll be buying an Indians Kerry Wood t-shirt for next year. Go Tribe!

About time they found someone to replace Rick Vaughn.

I hate my pretentious sounding username too.

I hate it. I suppose if he had to go somewhere, the Tribe is a fine enough destination, especially since Indians fans are spiritual brethren of Cubs fans.

But I still don't get it. We've determined that we only need one good bullpen arm? I'm Marmol's biggest fan, but he went through some REAL rough patches last season. Imagine if he hits the skids just as October rolls around.

He had one really bad stretch from mid-June to the All-Star break, but was terrific outside of that. I think that All-Star Game got his confidence back and then he went on to absolutely dominate from then through August(1 run, 4 hits allowed, 30 k in 22.1 innings). He started throwing his fastball a lot instead of the slider every pitch, and had really good command of the fastball by the year's end. I think he's gonna be fine. I'm more worried about our 6th/7th inning situation, and getting another lefty especially if we trade Marshall.

Clappie, I agree with you; Carlos is a stud. But as Butch and I have whined about ad nauseum, who the hell is gonna take Marmol's place for those mondo-crucial "tie game, bases-loaded, one out, 7th inning" situations?

That erratic dude from the Marlins?

I mean how many teams have that sort of guy though? The Phillies just had a shutdown closer and look where they got. I'm happy he's closing because he'll probably pitch about 15 less innings. It was great to have him come in and bail us out of situations for sure, but Lou then also pitched him a lot because of that. I think he may have been a little tired mid-season, he led the majors for relief pitchers in innings pitched through the first couple months I believe.

I don't know, I'm not very worried about Gregg, he's a fine setup man/emergency closer. We need Shark and Gaudin to step up, and if they do, we'll be just fine in the bullpen. Shit, Shark showed signs of being a dynamite reliever and maybe he becomes our new Marmol.

I hope it does work out. Perhaps Jim has Wood's money earmarked for Abreu, which is certainly a bigger need.
Plus, maybe this is the year that Angel Guzman finally has his long-awaited breakout year.

Bye-Bye Kerry. I still don't understand why we couldn't have just given him a one year deal as it sounds like he would've been happy with that (I guess Hendry felt that would've been a disservice to him), but oh well. He will be missed.

From everything I've read in the press Kerry only made mention of a 1 year deal after we declined to offer arbitration to him.
