1. Ernie Banks
2. Bill Dahlen
3. Woody English
4. Shawon Dunston
5. Joe Tinker
Another thin position. I almost thought about pulling some of the guys from the OF that played "some" games at SS. Tinker's numbers are horrible offensively.
I got nothin'.

Position by position, we've had some pretty atrocious players historically. It's no wonder we haven't won anything in forever.
And you guys forgot about Neifi "Mr. Everything" Perez.

The truth is, Wrigley the duece didn't believe in that whole newfangled concept of a "farm system."
He also was late to the table in signing black players, had no eye for talent, and treated the franchise kind of like an expensive toy.
But it was the lack of a farm system that really fucked the Cubs from the 40's till the 60's.
Since then, they've had their chances, but just had bad luck...the team could have easily been like the Tigers or Phillies of the past 40 years (long stretches of weak teams, then the occasional good team that wins the Series, or at least gets there), but...well bad luck.

Those are 4 years when the Cubs could have easily made it to, or even won the Series, but things just didn't fall their way.
There's nothing better than to realize that the good things about youth don't end with youth itself. It's a matter of realizing that life can be renewed every day you get out of bed without baggage. It's tough to get there, but it's better than the dark thoughts. -Lance

Alex Gonzalez didnt even enter the equation.
A herd of buffalo can move only as fast as the slowest buffalo. When the herd is hunted, it is the slowest and weakest ones at the back that are killed first. This natural selection is good for the herd as a whole, because the general speed and health of the whole group keeps improving by the regular killing of the weakest members.
In much the same way the human brain can only operate as fast as the slowest brain cells. Excessive intake of alcohol, we all know, kills brain cells, but naturally it attacks the slowest and weakest brain cells first. In this way regular consumption of beer eliminates the weaker brain cells, making the brain a faster and more efficient machine. That's why you always feel smarter after a few beers.
