All Time Best Cubs - Left Field
#1
The outfield has far more impressive players. Pretty solid crew.

1. Billy Williams
2. Riggs Stephenson
3. Alfonso Soriano
4. Hank Sauer
5. Rafael Palmeiro

Personal favorites.
HM. Dave Kingman
HM. Gary Matthews
HM. Moises Alou
HM. Ralph Kiner (he didn't play enough with the Cubs, otherwise he was a definite.)

*EDIT* - Moved Williams into 1st and Stephenson to 2nd.
I got nothin'.

Stephenson over Billy Williams?

I'd even put Alou and Sarge ahead of him.

Soriano makes the list??? I dunno about that one. I think it's gotta be Billy as an overwhelming #1 and Kingman is worthy of a top 3 spot.
Palmiero didn't play long enough as a Cub to deserve it IMHO and there's no way Stephenson is better than Billy...

3. gary matthews
4. dave kingman

Since most of you guys are stats guys:

Stephenson's line: ba/obp/slg/ops
.336/.407/.473/.880

Williams:
.290/.361/.492/.853

Stephenson played 14 season, Williams 18. Since we've all decided that RBI aren't a good indicator of individual ability, I'm wondering why Stephenson shouldn't be #1?
I got nothin'.

He was either a part-time player or he was always hurt. He only had over 500 ABs three times in his career.

I honestly don't know much about the guy -- but Billy Williams had over twice as many ABs than Stephenson in only four more seasons.

Hurt yes, but he was the starting LF for all 9 years for the Cubs.

Compare their MVP voting.

Stephenson -- he was in the running three times (20th, 23rd, and 5th).

Williams -- he was in the running eight times (18th, 12th, 8th, 23rd, 2nd, 21st, 2nd, and 29th).

Stephenson might deserve some consideration, but Williams was in a class by himself when it comes to Cub LFers.
