Milton Bradley and Cubs agree to deal?
<!--quoteo(post=9183:date=Jan 5 2009, 04:12 PM:name=payton)-->QUOTE (payton @ Jan 5 2009, 04:12 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}><!--quotec-->The payroll, minus Marquis, with Vizcaino, and with the 1 mill we are evidently sending Colorado is 120.6 mill for the guys we have under contract. Not counting Bradley. I AM counting Bako in here, although he's technically not signed and it could be a minor league deal as it is......

We also have Gregg, Wuertz, and Cedeno heading for paydays. AZ PHIL says 6.5 mill for the 3 of them combined and I agree it will most likely be in that area......

Then, you have to add the guys who aren't arbitration eligible yet: Soto, Theriot, Marshall, Marmol, Fontenot, Guzman and possibly Hoffpauir......These guys will all make at least 400K and probably a tad more in most cases. If you give the 6 of them(I fail to see Hoff making the roster, without a trade or two still) 3.5 mill, our current TOTAL major league payroll is 130.6 mill, not counting Bradley......So, it's basically right at the cusp of the 140 limit right now, leaving it to Hendry to get the payroll bump from the new owner to make a splashy type move at this point, like Peavy.......And as far as shedding salary at this point, the only candidates I see left are Wuertz, Cedeno, and Vizcaino. Which could technically save 6 mill, if we don't pick up ANY salary in dumping any of those guys.<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->

Sooo... I guess that means we're done making moves. All this, and I'm really not convinced that we're any better than we were in '08.

Well, at least Peavy's only making 8 million this year. I still think it's gonna happen. I like our chances of getting Peavy more than Bradley playing 100 games for us this year at least.

It's the fact that Ibanez and Burrell, 2 guys that could decline in that time but at least we'll play about everyday and produce solid numbers no matter what are getting the same deals or less.<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->

So which one are you?

Wittenmeyer thinks there's some sort of protection for the Cubs on the back end of the deal if Bradley ends up missing significant time early in the deal.

I am damn excited about this move. I can't even remember the last switch hitter the Cubs had that has the ability that Bradley has. I also think he needs to be hitting third in this lineup. Although I wouldn't mind him fourth with ARam hitting third.

I agree. Bradley talk on CSN right now.

Yankees apparently gave him a pretty serious look and said they couldn't find one player who did not rave about him as a teammate.

And Haugh responded the same way I would have.

He's sitting on my lap. I'm not letting him go to Coors. We need his innings.

I think that we just signed the best baseball player available on the market this year. I don't care how many games he plays, as long as he is ready for the playoffs.

I'd rather have Teixeira, but I agree if Bradley's just healthy for the playoffs I'll be happy.
