Anyway, you can't expect this guy to play more than half a season, and this is why I don't think we'll have him running around centerfield too much if at all when Reed, Fuk, and Gathright can play there. It's always why I don't buy Hendry doing all these things solely for the purpose of signing Bradley. It's not like he's unaware of the dude's anger and injury issues, and if you're ignoring that they're a significant concern, you're not living in reality. Olney also made a good point:
QUOTE Last year, Bradley played in 126 games -- only the second time in his career he's played that many -- and of those, 20 were in the outfield.

What am I wrong about? I was agreeing with you and even pointing out that in some instances they listed the same injury 4 consecutive times.

Check again. It's virtually the entire list.

But Clapp is right, it's still very alarming.

What am I wrong about? I was agreeing with you and even pointing out that in some instances they listed the same injury 4 consecutive times.

I thought you were saying they only did it 4 times...

QUOTE In coming to this conclusion, the MLB Examiner looked at (examined, if you will) several statistical groupings - and I think they're pretty darn interesting.

Bradley hits .327 when playing as a DH, and a combined .274 at the three outfield positions (there's not much leeway here)
Hitting second in the lineup, Bradley only hits .248.
Hitting third in the lineup, Bradley hits .266.
Hitting cleanup, Bradley takes off with a .331 batting average and .443 on base percentage
Bradley hits over .300 when coming up in the second and sixth innings (typically when your middle of the order is hitting).
And using those numbers, it's clear how the Cubs should use Bradley to maximize success.

His left handed bat fits nicely in the number four spot in the lineup between right handed sluggers Derrek Lee (3rd) and Aramis Ramirez (5th). Placing Ramirez behind Bradley works well because of Bradley's ability to take walks – taking a walk in the number five slot might lead to being stranded on base. Taking a walk in front of Ramirez however, is a whole different story.

I think Bradley in the four-hole between D-Lee and ARAM could be a really great fit. He also grounded into double-plays 2.3% of the time, compared to D-Lee's 4.1%, meaning there will be less times that an inning is killed before ARAM even gets to come up to bat.

Personally, I wish they would go ARam-Bradley-Lee (if only because I'd rather see ARam getting more at bats than Lee), but your point is well taken.

In my post, I forgot to highlight the most interesting number - how much worse Bradley is when he's playing in the field versus DH'ing. I'm going to assume that's statistically meaningless, though; explained away by the times in his career that he was DH'ing, the teams he was on/ballparks he played in, etc.

Here's hoping, at least.

Ace, I agree with you that DLee shouldn't be batting 3rd. But like you mentioned in the blog, the Cubs seem to refuse to even consider moving him, thats why I assume hes going to be hitting 3rd no matter what.

And I think the sample size of Bradley playing in the outfield is too small to make any assumptions. He played in the outfield such a small percentage of the time compared to DHing.

Dempster wants Bradley on the team.

QUOTE "Good player, man, and everything I hear from guys he played with is good," he said. "I know he has that reputation of being a hothead, but you hear from guys who played with him, and they all say he's a great teammate. Obviously, he'll bring a pretty powerful dynamic to our lineup."

Barring a snag in talks, the switch-hitting Bradley should be wrapped up before the Cubs Convention in two weeks. Washington and Tampa Bay are also negotiating with Bradley, who is said to prefer Chicago.

He played in 126 games last season, which is the most since he played in 141 for LA in 2004.
I think that leads to hope that he can be healthy this season and play even more games. And we NEED his OBP, I don't think anyone can complain with .320/.436

Can he do it for a whole season playing OF in Wrigley as compared to DHing in a very hitter friendly park? I don't know.

I sure hope the fans give him a chance and don't Jaque him out too quickly.

dude, comparing strap to bradley is retarded. no one wanted strap. he was coming off two very subpar years. bradley is coming off a very good year. fans want bradley. no one, except for maybe ruby, wanted strap. no comparison.

I don't believe Cubs fans are racist. I believe they got on Jones and Hawkins for sucking.

If Bradley gets off to a slow start, I can't see fans behavioir any different.

As far as what he can do, I'd temper my expectations to factor in that his numbers last year were inflated due to that park/infield. I think he will be a good add for the team - IF he gets off to a good start and connects with the fans.

If he doesnt - it will be an interesting contract.
The Jones signing was booed at the Cubs Convention before Jacque even took the field. His slow start certainly didn't help, but he was disliked the minute the contract was signed.

i hated the jones signing from day one. i would have booed him during pregame warmups if i could.

So, why hasn't Bradley's signing been completed?

Is it because we haven't offered enough money and Bradley is waiting us out? Is it becauce we still need to move others to obtain him? Either way I just wish this would be finalized. I'm afraid we'll wait too long and he'll end up going elsewhere.

I think Levine said the Marquis deal would be finalized this week with the Bradley signing to follow.

I agree there is no comparison of the players themselves. My comparison is the fans behaviour. Bradley is a known hothead. I can't imagine he'd respond well to some of what the fans have done to other players.

I'm hoping Bradley comes out and plays well. If he does that, he will be loved.

If we're looking for a former Cub to compare Bradley to, how about Rondell White?
