I used to really like Cusack until he got the suite at the Cell during the WS.

Belushi never bothered me until I watched his awful TV show. The man has nothing original to offer the entertainment industry. Maybe he's an ok guy, but I don't know...

From what I've heard, The Beloosh is one of the biggest assholes in the entertainment industry -- which you could look past if he had a modicum of talent.

Cusack...I hated him with a passion in 2005 when he jumped on the wagon and sported a White Sox hat. He also wore a Sox hat in "1408." I wished death on him during that time. My anger with Cusack has receded somewhat since then. But it will never be like it was before 2005. I was a huge fan before that debacle. If he bought a stake in the Cubs, I would actually like him more. It would signal a movement back towards the righteous camp...

Yeah. It's pretty close to the beginning. He checks into one of the haunted hotels (not the one the story revolves around) and kicks back on the bed, wearing a Sox hat. I don't think you see it again after that, but it didn't escape my attention.

Well, then he's officially a giant douche. I sort of forgave him for 2005 because I figured it was just a nice gesture, but if he's now casually wearing Sox hats in his movies (I don't recall him ever wearing or promoting anything Cubs related in his movies) then he's not someone we can trust.

Then again, money talks, so if he wants to show his bona fides by investing in the team, I'm willing to give him another chance.

I heard this in the AM on the way into work and was wondering what people's takes would be on these guys.

I really don't like Belushi. If he wasn't related to the comic genius that was John Belushi, he's be relatively unknown.

Murray is a great sports fan - and a good representative of the Cubs fanbase. I hope he doesn't spend too much time in front of the cameras, but he's tolerable.

I'm no fan of Cusack. He reminds me of lots of New Treir kids I knew. That said, there are few people who are bigger Cubs fans than he is. I know he sported a Sox hat and I know he showed up at the WS. But he'd be a great asset to ownership.

I wouldn't have a problem with him as minority owner, let me be clear. I just don't know if I trust his sincerity with regard to his allegiance to this team or any other, including the Sox. Then again, anyone who is willing to pony up $25 mil deserves a chance at redemption.

"We've made it very public that the Cubs don't fit into the long-term picture of the Tribune," he said in an interview with Bloomberg Television. "So if the Ricketts deal doesn't get done, I'm sure there will be other ones."

Zell's comments raise questions about Tribune Co.'s ability to close a deal many thought was a matter of course after the Chicago media company selected the Ricketts family's bid in January after a drawn-out auction. Zell had raised expectations in April that a transaction was certain when he told Bloomberg: "Everything is fine. We expect to close toward the end of May."

Now it's the end of May, and there's still no agreement, although Zell suggested the two sides appear to be close, saying, "We're basically trying to reach the end of the rope here."


Zell said the credit market slump has contributed to the delay.

"These are very difficult times," he said. "These are difficult times to arrange financing."

A spokesman for the Rickettses said the family would have no comment on Zell's remarks. A Tribune Co. spokesman also declined to comment.

Sources close to the family confirmed last week's reports that the Ricketts family had lined up financing for its Cubs bid. One source said there are some details to be worked out with the banks providing the loans but that the family has reached agreement on the terms of the financing. Sources have said another outstanding issue is the value of the TV and radio contracts to broadcast Cubs games.

The family made a bid of about $900 million in January. It has raised $400 million by selling some of its shares in TD Ameritrade Holding Corp., an online brokerage founded by Joe Ricketts, the family's patriarch. The family's pursuit of the Cubs is being led by Tom Ricketts, an investment banker who lives in Wilmette.

But reaching a deal on the debt took longer than expected, in part because banks are keeping a tight grip on their money during the recession and in the aftermath of last year's meltdown in the financial sector.<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->
