by the way, if everyone doesn't already have their keepers set, i believe i have at least one pitcher that may be keeper quality. i believe we can trade keepers now? either way i'd probably need to pair one of my possible 3 keeper bats with a pitcher to net an upgrade but if anyone sees anything, let me know

I'd rather not randomize the order, obviously.
Why would we change the rules now?

Well since this is the first offseason we aren't really changing the rules, we're just now forming them.

I'm not proposing changing how the draft is done... The two settings for the draft are 'randomly selected one hour before the draft' or 'manually set'. It was set to 'randomly selected one hour before the draft'. I was just proposing doing it ourselves before the keeper deadline instead of one hour before the draft.

It was set that way, because the first time in, it needed to be set to randomize. It just never got changed.

Ok, did we ever establish how it was going to be done after the first season? I went through that thread of things to change that was on the old board, and it wasn't mentioned. I'd like to get input from everyone. Personally, I'd rather see it random then having last pick first, etc. We could perhaps do a lottery and then set the order that way?

i'm cool with any way proposed, honestly. if forced to vote i will but it is only the second season and we have a few new owners so it's not really an established league. a majority of the way we played last season are totally different this year too. i hope it becomes a solidified league and we all form the rules to the leagues' desires but on this, i don't care. i'll say something if a change comes that i don't like, but so far so good

When I agreed to join the league, I was shown my team and told that I have the first pick. I'm taking over a team that I did not choose, nor could I be charged with tanking last year. I hope others understand.

I can definitely see the problems with people tanking, but on the other hand, giving the team that won the league, which probably has 3 of the best save guys, a 1 in 12 chance of also getting the first pick, seems counter intuitive.
I'm in a keeper football league, and giving the worst team the first pick has worked out pretty well in that one, even though it does champion tanking. I would recommend worst to first for the draft picks, but obviously keep it a snake draft.

I didn't definitively say you'd be getting the first pick, since at that point, I wasn't really sure what the settings were being that I was just given the commissioner's role. Sorry if I mislead you. I guess that randomly setting the order would create problems since it is a keeper league after all, but there also needs to be some incentive to prevent teams from tanking at the end of the season when they're clearly out of money contention.

To be honest, I don't know if there is a way around that. In theory, if you are out of it, you SHOULD be trying to deal all of your best non-keepers, in order to stock up for next year. By default, that would knock you down in the standings. While we certainly want to avoid people cutting their stars in order to get a better pick, we don't want to keep them from building for next year, either.

Well, randomly setting the order addresses that, but the concerns about the #1 team having the same chances of getting the #1 pick as everyone else are certainly valid. Perhaps we should put it to a vote? The way I see it, we have 3 options. Random, order of finish, or lottery.

i'd say vote it up unless it causes guys to quit and if that's the case we discuss it a little more

I don't think its really that big of a deal, in a snake draft everything pretty much equals out, I have no problem taking the last pick, whatever works.

I would think with 3 keepers, a snake draft would work fine.
