Backup Infielder Possibilities...Uribe?

Yeah I think I'm on board with Aurilia.

Aurilla reminds me of the Eric Karros signing with a little less power.
I hate my pretentious sounding username too.

We're not gonna have a real SS on the entire roster, not as a starter or a reserve.

He's still got some pop in his bat, can at least play the corner positions, and probably still SS in an emergency.<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->
Plus his middle name is 'Santo'

How much is he going to cost though? He made $4.5m last year apparently... that's kind of a lot. Hopefully not that.

Considering that Uribe's contract with the Giants is a minor league deal for 1 million if he makes the team, I would suspect Aurilia will get something similar to that.

He's 37, a class act, and still looking for a WS title so I think he'd sign with us for 1-2 million. Maybe he wants to retire with the team he started with and just stay with SF, but if he wants to win, the Cubs are the better choice as the Giants are still a year or two away. He'd get a lot of at bats as our primary backup at the corner positions, our top pinch-hitter, and an emergency option up the middle. I think Lou would love him.

I really, really, REALLY think this statement needs more attention here guys. Is anyone else concerned that Theriot would be the best fielding SS on the roster?

Eh, Cedeno wasn't a good SS either. He had nice range and got to some plays Theriot wouldn't, but he also blew a ton of routine plays. He has a career .961 fielding percentage there. That's pathetic. The lowest fielding % in the league last year for shortstops that qualified statistically was .967 from Hanley Ramirez.

Theriot and Miles don't have good range or great arms, but they won't kill you there.

They're going to work on getting Fontenot more reps at short, too, FWIW.

In a bubble, no. However, a middle consisting of Theriot, Miles/Fontenot, and Fuk/Johnson scares me. I'd like to have at least one elite fielder in there.
