Will the Cubs be able to get a valuable player on the cheap?

You trade Rich Hill for ANYTHING you can get.

His value couldn't really be any lower right now. Might as well wait and hope he puts together a few decent innings somewhere, sometime, and then see if there are any takers.

I loved Hill, but I agree with Clapp. There are probably some other teams who think they can magically get inside his head. If we can get a decent prospect out of it, why not do it?

True but he has to make the team or we risk losing him for nothing. Trade him and at least get something for him.

It would be wonderful if Hendry could work out a PTBNL trade where if Hill is good we would get a better player than the broken fungo we are currently going to get back for Hill.

If Hendry can't get shit back in return for DeRosa, Cedeno, or Pie, he'll be lucky to get the dad from Little People, Big World in return for Hill.

Butcher, what would have been a good return for Pie, Cedeno, and DeRosa in your opinion?

I would've kept DeRosa and Pie. DeRosa is even more valuable to us now that we have Bradley than he was last year. And if we're going to sign Gathright, then why not just keep Pie. Pie's ceiling is much higher than Gathright's. They were moves that didn't need to be made -- and if you make them, then you should make sure you get something that can help you in return. I'm not seeing anything close to that.

I guess you're assuming that last year was a hiccup and he'll return to the same pitcher he was in '05-'07?

I think he'll be much more like those 3 years than last year. Like Bush said, I think a change of scenery could be great for him. He just never seemed comfortable last year. It sounds like he's thrilled to be a Cub and hopefully it will bring out the best in him. This guy has a filthy sinker, it's just a matter of getting it over the plate which was never a problem until last year.

I'm with Butch. Pie is better than Gathright in every way possible. DeRosa was as valuable as any Cub last season, and he was traded for 3 scrubs, none of whom can help us in '09.

OTOH, Bradley will kick ass for 90 or 100 games, and Heilman is a lottery ticket. Youneverknow.
