I'm still very worried that if/when Marshall starts we only have Neil fucking Cotts from the left side in the pen. I really would like to see us somehow go get another lefty (No, Olson doesn't really count in my mind).

What guys are out there? Beimel? I'm not sure if there's anyone we could trade for. I'd like to have another lefty too.

Yeah I don't know either. Beimel really sucked before a pretty good 3-year run for the Dodgers. He still might be worth a look.

Beimel isn't very good against lefties though, .278 BAA vs. lefties last year (compared to .263 vs. righties). He had a good '07 vs. lefties (.188), but his career BAA against lefties isn't great either (.266).

That's a pretty good point, I hadn't looked that closely into his stats. I still think we need to do something here.

All of our righties are very good at getting out lefties though. I'm not too worried about it. Sure it would be nice but it won't be why we go home in October.

He's actually been pretty damn good since we dumped him.

As for Eric Hinske, I really don't see how he'd fit on our team. I don't think he can really play 3rd anymore. He's started 9 games there in the last 3 seasons. Bradley and Fukudome can play RF, Alf's going to be in LF everyday, and Lee will be at 1b everyday. Also, Hinske absolutely cannot hit left-handed pitching at all.
He'd be a nice weapon off the bench against righties that starts maybe once a week. I'm not the biggest Hollywood Hoffpauir believer, but I think he'd do pretty much the same thing Hinske would for us and at a much cheaper price. Our money would be better spent on something else.
Edit: Well the Pirates are close to signing him apparently. I would like to keep him off their team.

True story. And our lefty in our rotation is good at TAKING righties out.

I agree with you on Hoff, but when did he go Hollywood?
Also, it wouldn't bother me if Hinske signs with Pittsburgh. Aside from the fact that he grew up a Cubs fan, I have no use for him as an everyday player.

He never went Hollywood, I just call anybody with a Ho name that. As for Hinske:
QUOTE The Pirates, mostly quiet this off-season, are closing in on a one-year contract with free-agent infielder/outfielder Eric Hinske, according to a major-league source.
An agreement could be reached as soon as Wednesday, the source said. The deal would pay Hinske between $1 million and $2 million guaranteed, plus incentives.
That's a cheaper deal than I anticipated, but I'd imagine he could make quite a bit more with incentives since he should get 400-500 at bats with the Buccos.

With a likely bench of Bako, Miles, Reed and Gathright already, is there even a spot for Hoffpauir? With the talk of possibly adding Aurilia, I'm not so sure Hoffpauir even makes the team, even though he's a better hitter than Aurilia.

Levine was reporting that we are close to trading for Heilman and giving up Cedeno + a pitcher. Also he mentioned that 3 teams are interested in Hill.
Forgive me if this was posted elsewhere, and fuck you.
