Thanks to biggz for the head's up (in the MLB thread), but I thought this should have its own thread.
A totally random link to the rumor.
Bruce Levine says it's getting close to done for Cedeno and pitching. Presumably it'll be bullpen type(s) without options.

That will make me feel better about our bullpen. I'm not sure what we are gonna do with everyone though. Seems like Gaudin, Gregg, Marmol, Shark, Vizcaino, Heilman would all have guaranteed spots with their contracts/statuses and I doubt we would have room for all. Wonder if we might just dump Vizcaino or something.

I think it means, ironically, that a Peavy trade may be more likely to happen. With the addition of Heilman, the Cubs could deal Marshall AND Olson and still have two swingmen (Heilman and Gaudin), as I speculated yesterday on some really awesome blog...

Maybe we're sending Wuertz their way or something.

Yeah we are gonna have to shed some pitching somehow. I forgot about Olson and of course there is Hart and Wuertz is out of options too. If we somehow can't get the Peavy deal done we are gonna have extra arms we don't have a spot for. Hopefully as you said, Hart, Olson and others end up in San Diego.

Plus, Guzman is out of options, so something needs to be decided about him.

I've decided he gets hurt too much.

It seems like Guzman is to the point where he would probably make it through waivers. I'm sure lots of teams would like to have control of him, but where he is out of options, it would be pretty tough for anyone to make a 25 man roster commitment to him.

There is no way he would make it through waivers though. I can think of very few teams that would not take a chance on adding that type of arm with the only risk being his close to league minimum salary. I think he will still be involved in a trade.
I would think that Cedeno and Wuertz would be enough to complete the Heilman trade.

I think there are a lot of small market teams that would be thrilled to have him in their pen.

I don't like his name. It's like Heinz and hymen.
If Angelo had picked McClellin, I would have been expecting to hear by training camp that kid has stage 4 cancer, is actually 5'2" 142 lbs, is a chick who played in a 7 - 0 defensive scheme who only rotated in on downs which were 3 and 34 yds + so is not expecting to play a down in the NFL until the sex change is complete and she puts on another 100 lbs. + but this is Emery's first pick so he'll get a pass with a bit of questioning. - 1060Ivy

I don't know, I could be wrong, but every time we put a former prospect on waivers people are convinced there is no way they would make it through, and they always do. He is coming off yet another injury, turns 28 this year and is out of options.
I agree than some team like the Royals or Pirates might would take a chance, but I couldn't see any team seriously competing, committing a 25 man roster spot to him.
