There's a reason the smartest pitcher of all time wanted this guy being his personal catcher. He's good with pitchers and calls a good game. They must not feel Hill's the same way.

Look at Hill's #'s, look at his career path, look at all there is to see about Hill. When you're done, come back and tell me what about him is more desirable than Bako, you're not gonna find anything. Bako is not good, he's probably not even average, Hill is far, far worse though. I would have rather signed Lo Duca or re-signed Blanco, but Hill should never be and was never option, thankfully.

Exactly. Hank was the perfect role model for Geo. His veteran presence is more so than Bako. Plus, if it wasn't for Hank's homer against the Rockies, we'd never have comeback run 8 runs down.

Blanco and Bako both were personal catchers for Maddux. Blanco is smarter, a better hitter and defensive catcher. He related more to Geo. Should have kept him.

I never said that Hill was better than Bako, but the difference isn't so great for 20 or so games out of the season, that it would make sense to sign him for anything more than a minor deal. The guy is 36/37, so it isn't as if his best days are ahead of him. He's getting worse over time, so for the money I'd still take Hill. But this really isn't worth arguing over because their PT will be minimal regardless of who ends up being the backup.
And I agree with you on LoDuca. I would have loved to have him, as long as he wouldn't ask for too much.

Also, Hill's MiL stats aren't as bad as some think, and have been pretty solid the past few seasons. The more PT he gets, the better his numbers. Again, I'm
not claiming he's very good, but he's acceptable as a backup for a handful of games, especially compared to the incomparable Bako. That's all I was saying.

Isn't Hill a switch hitter?
