Bako agrees to terms with Cubs

No surprise.

Maybe the worst hitter in the league for position players, but a good game caller and defensive catcher. Fine backup catcher.

I'd rather have Koyie Hill as the backup.

Come on HTC you're better than that, it's THE Bako.

Totally agree. Bako is a hideous offensive baseball player. this move sucks and is stupid. .

Again, I see no problem with this. He's pretty much a pitcher at the plate but we make up for that with very good hitters pretty much everywhere else in the lineup. He's going to play once a week and be a good mentor for Soto.

Hank White signed with the Padres for $750,000. If we aren't going with Koyie, then we should've just brought Hank back.

I think Koyie and Bako are very similar in pretty much every way. We already had Koyie so getting Bako seems sorta pointless, but whatever, it was expected. Either one will be a decent backup.

I would rather have Hill at this point as well. However I am not going to pretend this move is going to keep us from getting to the playoffs either. I don't think what we are paying Bako is going to hold us up on any other moves that may help us. Therefore I couldn't care less on what he is making. Like Clapp said he is a pretty decent defensive catcher... calls a good game and brings veteran experience behind the plate vs someone like Hill. That could come up big a few times during the season and also in helping Soto.

I'd rather have Blanco too, but not Koyie over Bako. Also isn't possible Blanco wanted some playing time and knew it would only diminish with Soto there?

I never thought we'd have so many people pissed that a .190 career hitter isn't playing. But his AAA numbers were great! He cannot hit a breaking ball AT ALL. He's Bako without the catching skills and veteran leadership.

I'm not all that pissed about it -- it's our backup catcher, after all, but just add it to the list of moves that Hendry has made this offseason that don't make a lot of sense.

I'm not pissed about it at all either, but still would have preferred Hill. I just would rather not see shitty former Cubs return, that's all. But yeah, this doesn't change our team's chances to win in the grand scheme of things.

I just think it is a stupid move to sign a catcher of the scrap heap to a guarantedd one year contract. If we were going to sign him we should have signed him to a minor league deal with an invitation to ST. I watched a lot of Cincy games last year and Bako is not a very good player anymore. His defense is average and his bat blows. He just bats LH so Jim wants to blow him. That's all this is. Jim wanted to acquire any warm body that could catch and bat LH. When the rest of you see how much Bako's catching skills have detoriarated you'll agree how stupid this move was. But at the end of the day, he's our backup catcher. Big fucking meh! It's just another move in a series of head scratchers this offseason.

He was never any good, ever.
