If he didn't work as an announcer for the White Sox, which I would do as well in a heartbeat, I don't think you'd have a problem with him.

I know mm didn't care so much, but why the quip about 101 years? It isn't just that he works for the Sox now, but it appears that he has completely bought into their Cubs-hating culture. That's the part I don't like.

I understand, but he was given a pretty raw deal. He didn't want to dislike us. I completely understand his situation so it's hard to fault him for it.

Yeah. He got fucked over. But that was 5 years ago, and there's about to be new ownership, nearly all of the faces have changed, and it's time for him to stop being a bitter, unprofessional douche about the whole thing.

I'll admit it -- even if he never spoke a word about the Cubs, his affiliation with the Sox in and of itself would make me dislike him a little. But he's taking it far beyond where it needs to be and I've started to really despise him.

This is not some silly theory that's unsupported and deserves being mocked by photos of Xena. [Image: ITgoyeg.png]

If he spends an equal amount of time being the face of Sox broadcasting as he did with the Cubs, and during that time drops more than a few more spiteful comments about the Cubs, I doubt that he will have too many friends left in Cubdom.

I love Stoney! I always respected how he was a fan you could tell, but not a blind one. If the team was crappy, he wouldn't sugar coat it. He saw his duty was to broadcast the game accurately even if it wasn't flattering to the team brass, players, coaching staff, or even sometimes fans he thought were out of line. All the while teaching baseball. I was never a huge Chip fan but he had some not so shimmering remarks referring to the Cubs organization at the time as well. Mark Grace is another that said he loved his time in Chicago but would never work for the Cubs in any capacity again. Although I think that may have expired when McPhail left. In all cases I believe it's beyond sour (seedless) grapes! As for him and the Sux, the guy loves baseball, I believe he would have loved to have been with the Cubs forever if treated with respect. Since he wasn't, went to another former team and as a professional would "rides for the brand" They're lucky to have him!

Theres a reason they all hated the Cubs. Fuck, I hate em. Our organization was full of douchebaggery assholes. It's different now, but some people don't want to change their minds about how they view us and that's completely understandable.

That was so appropriate, Colo. Cub.
Perhaps the most perfect comeback in the history of SOI.

I'm not trying to be a prick, more than point out the obvious but.....kind of like how some Cub fans have such a blatant White Sox hating culture?

Do I think the guy should just get over it, yes. I think that because it's just not healthy to carry all that sort of negativity around with you. But let's take a look at this from his side. This guy worked for the Cubs over a span of over three different decades. I honestly believe he gave everything he possibly could to his job, and I do think the guy is (especially after meeting him) vastly prideful ... you combine the longevity of his entire body of work and how things ended, and as with all bad relationships, some people can be vindictive and/or hold serious grudges. Hell, I've had personal experience withat myself. I think the guy needs to let it go, but that does not change the simple fact that he DID care about this team and give everything he had to it for DECADES. Bottom line, I think he wasn't just embarrassed, and pissed off. I think the guy was seriously hurt by how he was treated and I don't think that five years of pain outweighs his cumulative positive overall body of work. Should he get off his soap box, yes, do I understand why he's pissed off...yes. Would I feel exactly the same .. probably.

That's just me. That's just how I see things.

Wow.

I don't care that he has issues with the Cubs. I care how he talked to you, a man on the street Cubs fan. You approached him with respect and initiated the conversation. Once ask who you are fan of you responded. You weren't being obnoxious or boisterous about it. He makes a snide remark to you, not the Cubs, but to you. He said this out of disrespect to you. People who say shit like this do it to put you on your heels, to take control of the conversation and to make sure you are in your place. It is an uncalled for remark to make to a regular fan of the Cubs. He was telling you that you are stupid.

That is my problem with Stone and any other sox fan for that matter. They always feel the need to rub our history in our face. A history we have no control over. Since we have no control, the only reason to mention it is to make us feel stupid for putting our hearts behind a team that hasn't won in 101 years.

Yes I fucking hate the sox, but anything I have ever said to a sox fan has always been in response to their prickishness.

I always use this example since for me it is the most glaring. My wife is from New Jersey and grew up more or less a Yankees fan. She was new to the whole Chicago sports dynamic. My brother-in-law, my sister's husband, is a sox fan along with his whole family. Every get together, they were always the ones starting shit with me about the Cubs. My wife, being the third party, comes to me and says "you never start anything with them but they always say shit to you. What is their problem?" I say it's because they are sox fans. She doesn't believe it at first, but over the years she's seen it not only from them but from a lot of other dick sox fans. She now hates sox fans, not because she's a Cubs fan, but because they are bunch of pudknockers.
