From Cubs.com:

QUOTE Robnett, 25, was selected by the Athletics in the first round of the 2004 First-Year Player Draft. He batted .236 at Triple-A, and has a .256 average in five Minor League seasons.

He was added to the Cubs' 40-man roster and will report to Spring Training camp.

Well, from a pure fan's standpoint, I'm with Lou.

So, he's a Theriot or Miles injury away from being on the active roster... awesome!

He's an outfielder and I don't think he'll play an inning for us this year. Won't make a difference on our outcome anyway.

An outfielder who has hit .256 in 5 minor league seasons?
Unless he has Bunyanesque power, or fields like a young Andruw Jones, he's worse than worthless.

QUOTE One thing I've learned about Hendry: He likes to keep the roster nice and tidy at spring-training time. Players out of options have to clear waivers if their club wants to send them to the minor leagues at the end of camp, and all of these now-former Cubs would have been claimed. By trading them, Hendry at least gets live bodies. He also saves a little more than $2 mil in salaries, and that's suddenly become important to the Cubs this winter.

So, there are now two roster spots open now and one presumably will go to a Aurillia type player. I am starting to get obsessed with a deal for Ben Sheets despite not hearing anything about him and almost every team very worried about his medical reports. It'll probably be a roster spot left open.

Of course we got 2 worthless prospects, we traded someone worthless to get them. Actually, I'm surprised we 2 pieces of crap for Wuertz instead a singular turd.

It should be noted, BTW, that Wuertz is a not remotely as bad as you guys make him out to be. He had a down year last year...not unlike Heilman. The 2 years before that, he was pretty damn good.

Like we all saw last year, the big thing was his control...he just walked too many batters, and didn't K enough. Was he hurt at all? Not a big injury, but any nagging little things? There must have been something going on, because for his entire career, he had averaged over a strike-out per inning, and last year, he didn't come close to that.

And even with all those troubles, his ERA+ was 123 last year...in other words, well above average for a ML pitcher.

(I know, I know...stats are 100% bullshit, worthless, and communist. And I agree that in some cases, like Wuertz's, they don't tell the whole story. But they do give you a little more information than just Ruby saying "He's a turd!")
