So Jeff Keppinger might be released/traded by the Reds, anyone interested in him as a backup MI?

Absolutely, and he's been a pain in the ass to us in at least some games. He strikes out less than just about anybody in baseball and can handle any infield spot. He'd be perfect.

Definitely.
The thing you need to remember is that all Cardinals fans and all White Sox fans are very bad people. It's a fact that has been scientifically proven beyond a shadow of a doubt. Being a Cubs fan is the only path to rightousness and piousness. Cardinal and White Sox fans exist to be the dark, diabolical forces that oppose us. They are the yin to our yang, the Joker to our Batman, the demon to our angel, the insurgence to our freedom, the oil to our water, the club to our baby seal. Their happiness occurs only in direct conflict with everything that is pure and good in this world.

Why would they release him? wow, I'd love to have him as a utility guy.

He's out of options, so he would probably be put on waivers, not actually released.

According to the Cincinnati Enquirer, Jeff Keppinger has been a topic of discussion among scouts recently and could be shopped before the start of the regular season.
Keppinger is out of options and has been out-hit by Adam Rosales this spring, so a change of scenery definitely could take place. The Reds aren't expected to keep both players on the 25-man roster and manager Dusty Baker has spoken glowingly about Rosales this spring. "He's got some speed. He's got some sock," the Reds manager said Friday. "He's in the mix big time (to make the team)." Mar. 21 - 8:57 am et

Love his versatility, but outside of 2007, he's been a pretty poor hitter. Last year in 120 games he was pretty terrible. German is just as good, no?

I don't think so, and German's not nearly as good defensively. German has a career .933 fielding percentage at 3rd base, and has played 8 games in his career at shortstop. The only groundball I've seen him get this spring was yesterday when he was at 3rd base and he butchered it, a routine play.

Keppinger played 108 games at SS last year for the Reds with a .980 fielding percentage. He's solid there, and he's also been fine at 3b. He'll hit .265+ and walks more than he strikes out.

German's 31 and coming off the worst season of his career. The Royals didn't want him back, and their reasoning for keeping Teahen is because they need his versatility more than ever, yet they got rid of German.

Yeah just the fact that Keppinger is a SS and German can't play SS is enough for me to like Keppinger a lot more for our situation.

Would Guzman be enough to get Keppinger?

I'd think so. It makes perfect sense for both sides. Guzman's talent is undeniable and it would be beyond foolish to just let him walk for nothing.

The Reds would have to be willing to give him a 25 man roster spot though since he is out of options too.

Great point and their pen is pretty good, I don't know if there's room for him there. So... it probably won't happen.
