Excuse me? Since when are most of our guys all or nothing, non-contact hitters? They ranked 2nd in the league in runs and 8th in HRs. This team is all about putting the ball in play and that's why I like them.

They're streaky hitters that are great when they're hot, but were pure shit in the last 2 playoffs when they weren't. Miles is a guy where you know what you're getting with him every single game. We could've used a few of his singles the last couple years in October.

Are you trying to say that Miles never has an 0-fer? He never goes cold? Slappy singles hitters go into slumps, too. I don't care how gritty they are.

There's a reason why I keep saying wee need one of Hudson, Durham, or Cabrera on this team. Going an entire season with Theriot, Miles, and Fontenot to at 2B and SS is gonna drive me batshit crazy. A starting lineup with one of them in it is fine, absolutely, without a doubt fine. Having 2 of them in a the lineup ocassionally will be fine, absolutely, without a doubt fine. Having 2 or more of them in the lineup everyday is gonna suck, absolutely, without a doubt suck.

Of course he has days where he goes 0 for 4. The worst month he had last year he hit .280 though. Sometimes those bloopers aren't falling but he's pretty much the same hitter everyday. He is what he is and realizes that, just keeps a short contact swing every game and puts the ball in play. It's what Theriot finally did last year.

Yeah, when you put it that way....defintely have to agree.

Let's hope Fontenot cranks it up this year, and hopefully makes up for what the other two lack.

I'm kind of in the middle on Miles I guess. I think he will be a solid productive player, he does some good things. I think he would be great in a utility/platoon type role. I like the guys who play hard, I liked Reed in his role last year, I liked Fontenot in his role last year and Theriot was solid, other than his baserunning.

But, at the same time I agree that if you get too many of those guys in the lineup everyday its gonna start to get annoying after a while. I just hope Bradley stays healthy and Lee and Fuk play better this year, then it won't really matter.

Indians just DFA'ed Marte... Might be worth a shot maybe?

I'm guessing by mid-season, no one will have a second guess about the Miles/Fontenot combo, much like how everyone hated the DeRosa deal 2 years ago.
I got nothin'.

Hmm. He's got a lot of talent but has really, and I mean REALLY struggled in the bigs. He was the top prospect of the Braves years back, people thought this guy was going to be a star. I wouldn't mind giving him a shot but I think a really bad team will scoop him up and hope they can hit the jackpot with him. He's just a 3b really and he's obviously not going to play much for us there anytime soon. I just don't know if how he'd do as a backup.

Although it doesn't count because he had only had 284 plate appearances, only Chase Utley had a higher OPS(.915) than Fontenot(.909) for 2b's in MLB last season. Miles' .317 batting average was the third highest among 2B's(Pedroia, the AL MVP, was .326). When these are the things people are complaining about, you've got a pretty damn good team, for the regular season anyway.

Is anyone complaining about Font? I'm sure not.
It's Miles, a fellow who is clearly inferior to DeRosa, who we're uptight about.
There's nothing better than to realize that the good things about youth don't end with youth itself. It's a matter of realizing that life can be renewed every day you get out of bed without baggage. It's tough to get there, but it's better than the dark thoughts. -Lance

Once people get over the fact that Miles isn't replacing DeRosa, they'll like him a lot more.

Like Andy said and you always remind us, we got the AL OPS leader in Bradley. You can't look at the positional comparison but the team as a whole. We got a downgrade offensively at 2b, but a monumental upgrade in RF. If we just got Miles instead of DeRosa and kept Fuk in right field, sure there's reason to be upset. Our lineup now has more versatility and might very well be better than last year's. I don't think DeRo puts up those power numbers again either. I bet he hits 12 or 13 homers.

I loved the DeRosa deal from the beginning, the current trio we have up the middle, not so much. We need another MI no matter what, the only 3 guys that can play 2B/SS on the 40 man are Fontenot, Miles, and Theriot. However, there is an open spot on the 40 man and needs to be filled by another MI, pronto.
