Pitchers And Catchers Report

QUOTE (KBwsb @ Feb 16 2009, 05:26 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>1) Gathright is an OBP guy? Uh.......no.

I said "more of" an OBP guy, as in he's better at just getting on base than he is at hitting for power, but that doesn't mean that he's a good OBP guy. Sorry for the confusion.

Lou said Soriano might not hit leadoff.

I had thought about it but never posted anything about it. I would not mind at all to see Fontenot to get a shot at hitting leadoff. He put up a .395 obp last season and has good pop. Of course he doesent have a lot of speed but I think he would do well at getting on base. Regardless I do think he needs to hit first or second when he is in the lineup.

I'm with cigar. Fuck speed. I don't give a shit if we've got speed at the top of the lineup. Give me a guy that gets on base, and then make the pitcher face Bradley, Soriano, Lee and Ramirez back-to-back-to-back-to-back. That's how you do damage.

Fontenot actually has extra base hit power too so if he isn't walking, at least he's not going to be just hitting singles.

If everyone hits like they did last year, we're going to have a damn powerful lineup, no matter how it's ordered.

That's a big "if," however. Fontenot hit the hell outta the ball last year, and I don't know if he's that good. Bradley had a career year/contract year, and may not reach those lofty heights again. Alf and Lee are a year closer to their mid-30's. Soto soph season?

OTOH, We've all been patiently waiting for the Aramis MVP-caliber year, and this could be it. And it'd be near impossible for Fuk to actually be any worse than last year. Theriot seems like a legit MLB hitter, albeit sans any semblance of power. Reed J. is is the best shape of his life. I think the good may balance out the bad.

Good lineup, I think.
Good pitching, too.
I predict Cubs over Yankees in 7.
There's nothing better than to realize that the good things about youth don't end with youth itself. It's a matter of realizing that life can be renewed every day you get out of bed without baggage. It's tough to get there, but it's better than the dark thoughts. -Lance

WAY to early to make any WS predictions, whether it be teams making it or not making it. Hardly anyone would've guessed the Rays would've made it last year. We could see another surprise this year, who knows......

I'm not going to make any predictions, but Sabathia, Wang, Burnett, Pettite, and Chamberlain is a pretty formidable rotation, not to mention their lineup that ranked in the top ten in MLB in scoring. I'm not saying their a lock by any means, but they have a pretty damn good chance.

They could also be the 3rd best team in their division. The additions they made were nice, but the overall makeup of their team is not that much better than it was last year.

Considering Sidney Ponson had the third most innings pitched on the team with a 5.04 ERA, I think they might get a little bit more out of that rotation.

Or Sabathia's innings could catch up to him, Wang could have problems coming back from injury, Burnett could turn into glass again, Pettitte and his age could fall off a cliff, and Chamberlain could prove that he doesn't have stamina to start all year.

I see them as minimally improved overall if you factor in all of their offseason moves. They are not going to the World Series.

And if we never win a postseason game, we aren't going to the WS either.
