Let the Right One In
#1
Did anyone see this? I read great reviews of it and I'm really looking forward to it being available. It's just sitting in my Netflix queue, taunting me...

I'm guessing rok might be the only one who might be in the same boat with me on this one, but I'm throwing it out there anyway.

Yeah, it's been in my queue for a while as well, and it's finally coming out March 10 (same day as Synecdoche, New York, so I'll be in hog heaven on March 11). I'm trying to find a good torrent of it if possible, and it could very well be out there since it came out in Sweden 1 year ago. The only other recent movie that has gotten such widespread great reviews in horror circles was [REC] and that turned out to be awesome. I'm hoping for the same.

Ok, so I was able to find a really good Swedish DVD rip with subtitles, and watched it last night. This is definitely a good one, but I have to say it isn't your typical horror movie. This is much more a story about two 12 year old kids living lonely, dysfunctional lives. The relationship is believable and not dumbed down or romanticized for the teen set like I'd imagine Twilight was. This is definitely a film for adults. It has sort of a revenge film (European not American) feel, but there are also a couple of good gory scenes, especially one toward the end in a swimming pool, that were done so extremely well that you can still call this horror. I'd compare it to films like The Shining and Romero's old vampire film Martin as far as look and feel. I can't stress enough how beautifully shot this film is, and the atmosphere it creates is unsettling, but in a good way. If you don't mind a slow moving film, and aren't expecting a typical vampire film or slasher, then I'd highly recommend this.

4.5/5 stars.

Yes, I'm in, no I haven't seen it. It's not available in English on Grabboid yet, so I have to wait for Netflix.

There are a ton of torrents available with subtitles out there. Great quality too. Shit, I'd give you a copy if I were still working in the Loop.

You should watch it anyway. You hardly notice the subtitles (I find that true for all subtitled movies, actually).

Yeah, the dialogue is sort of sparse in this movie, but it's good and isn't distracting at all. There's a dubbed version on the DVD, but I hate english dubbing. Always go with the original audio and score.

there are also 2 different versions of subtitles, as I guess the distributor dumbed down the dialogue in their initial release. The original subtitles have been added back in.

yeah i read about that. seems like a lot of people were pissed about it. they forced the company to redo the subtitles.

I thought the flick was great. I will hate it when hollywood redoes it, staring dakota fanning and michael cera though.
