I think the nature of the injury (back injury) and time of the injury (late season) are common knowledge, but I had no idea it was because he was being a drunk guy.

Are you actually implying that Harden has been a disappointment as a Cub? Granted he's had injury issues inthe past and some mediocre spring starts, but his numbers have been absurdly good in pretty much every regular season start as a Cub.

Yeah, but then we got swept in the playoffs and Harden didn't help. I'm not saying I agree that it's been worthless, just saying you could make that argument.

That argument only holds water if what you gave up is better than what you got. Are you gonna tell me that Gallagher/Patterson/Murton combined has been 1/10th as valuable as Harden?

Well Murton is now with the Rockies, Patterson is in AAA and Gallagher couldn't even crack the A's rotation and supposedly lost velocity as ST went on.

AAA with the Rockies too. I've also read about Gallagher's struggles. Liked what we saw from him last year but still not sold on him being better than a #4 or so. So far it's a giant win to me just for what Harden did for us last year. After the Brewers getting CC, we had to make a move and Harden was absolutely sensational. Fella pointed out to me that Harden was like 12 innings shy of winning the NL ERA title. He gave us the best rotation in the league and the best built team for October heading into the playoffs.

Patterson is out for the year with a torn quad or something like that.

Lost in Gaudin being released is the fact that Shark has been sent to AAA to extend himself. I really think he could be a good starter for us and we all know that we are going to need SP depth this season. I think sending him to AAA is the best decision for the team. Let him pitch every 5th day until we need him.

You may be right, but I believe that he is much more valuable to us if he can have success as a starter.

Nope, not quite what I was trying to say. All I'm saying is that Harden hasn't been very good since he was put on the DL last August. He's basically a 4-5 inning pitcher now who's lost about 5-10 mph on his pitches. That's what I meant when I said he needs to turn it around soon. He isn't the same guy that we saw early last summer, and I have my doubts that we'll see that guy again.

In light of all of this why the fuck did the Cubs give Gaudin $2,000,000?
