Bullpen

It makes too much sense, Samardzija to AAA, Gaudin to DL, Patton and Guzman to the 25 man roster.

<!--quoteo-->QUOTE <!--quotec-->Rule 5 pick David Patton struck out three in 1 2/3 scoreless innings against the Angels on Tuesday.
With a 0.73 ERA and 15 strikeouts in 12 1/3 innings this spring, Patton appears to be on the verge of getting the bullpen spot that was supposed to belong to Chad Gaudin. The Rockies surely have no chance of getting him back. Even if the Cubs decide against keeping him, it seems practically certain that the Padres would step in with a waiver claim.<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->

If it wasn't already painfully obvious, the kid deserves the chance.

I really would like to know what the fuck is wrong with Gaudin. If he isn't pitching hurt, then what gives?

Either way, he can NOT make the team

I don't think there is any way he will. Wittenmeyer said we are shopping him hard, and if we don't get any takers he will probably either go on the DL or be released.

Yeah, in no way does he deserve a spot on the roster. It really pisses me off though, because for that short time before he hurt his back, he was our most consistent middle reliever. I just hope we get something for him, because I have a feeling that he'll bounce back eventually.

That's why I wanna DL him. Trading him at this point would just be stupid, he has little to no value.

Anyone else a little worried that the bullpen, using guys that will actually be on the team, has been atrocious the last week? Or is that just the Cub fan in my starting to shit a brick because the regular season is only days away?

We've blown leads of more than 3 runs in 4 of the last 7 games. That sucks. Some of it is due to errors from minor league fill ins, but the pitching is guys that are either definitely on this team, or fighting for the last spots. Not good.
I got nothin'.

I am Andy. Every time I see the final score I always think, "please tell me the pen isn't going to do this during the season."

Gregg and Heilman have both continued to pitch very well and Marmol has shown good stuff and those are the 3 guys that will be getting the majority of the work in innings 7, 8 and 9.

I still think our middle relief situation is a mess, but we have enough talented arms in the system that we will get it settled eventually.

I think the fact that our middle relief is such a bloody mess was the main reason why Marmol is still the 7th/8th inning guy. There are going to be a lot of fires to put out this season.

I wish we would have traded Gaudin to the BJs.
