I think he would have had major health issues even had he never met Dusty.

Well, the guy did have 2 procedures over the past 2 years. I have no idea if they were as serious as he wants us to believe, but I just can't overlook how quickly he bounced back after 2 severe injuries (not pitching related, mind you) in 2003-04. Either he turned into a giant vagine sometime in 2005 and lost his competitiveness <b>or</b> he had some serious injuries that built up during a short period and simply became Mr Glass. I just refuse to believe that all he wants to do is pick up a paycheck and sit on his ass for the rest of his career. Either way, nobody will ever know for sure.

Fella, Chris Carpenter is the only pitcher to ever come back from the shoulder injury that Prior has and be succesful, and even that was pretty short lived.

I understand the fans' disappointment with Prior. What I don't understand is people assuming things about his character in the face of injury. No one knows what he may or may not have been able to do. The facts are that he had multiple injuries and no one knows if by some definition of "mental toughness" he might have been able to compete at the highest level of the game if he had only not been a "pussy".

I liked the fact that he wasn't the typical Cub who was just happy to be here, coddling fans and reporters, blah blah blah. I also don't blame Dusty 100%. With or without Dusty, there was going to be injury problems for Prior. Dusty might have sped them up or compounded them, but this whole mess was not brought on by a half a season of overuse.

and it has nothing to do with his mental toughness. The guy was just doomed from the start unfortunately.
