i was going to make a thread about this this morning but i thought, "whats gonna interest cub fans more, threads about cub greats being honored or threads about wives, nicknames, and homosexuality?" i think we all agree that i made the smart choice.

It's about damn time. But I guess they needed to wait for Maddux to retire first.

Gay, Maddux is a Brave. Retire it for Fergie, but Maddux should have his number retired in Atlanta.

If anyone has an extra $350 + laying around there are two $175 tickets available in the bullpen box section for this date on the Cubs site. That seems to be the only place to get a pair of tickets together on there right now.

I also have to agree. The guy won 3 of this Cy Youngs with the Braves, had the best years of his career with them and won the WS with them. As much as I love him, his number should not be retired by the Cubs. He sure as hell won't go into the Hall as a Cub.

Now the Braves are also retiring Maddux's number on July 17.

Um, guys? IMO, it's because they shared the same number. If they had different numbers, they would only be retiring Fergie's. But since they're the same, and they're doing Fergie's, they're calling it both.

But why? IMO that is disrespectful to Fergie. I don't know for sure, but I am guessing other guys wore Santo's number after he retired, but they aren't sharing the retirement. Now, I understand that Maddux is a HOFer, however, he is not a Cubs HOFer...Fergie is....Fergie deserves this all by himself.

Like I said, I love Maddux, but he is a HOFer with the Braves and should have his number retired by them and them only...not the Cubs also.

And no, I am not trying to compare the glut of 3B's we had since Santo to Maddux.

If anyone needs their number retired it's Grace.

I'm a huge Grace fan, but couldn't disagree more. I also don't think Maddux should be recognized. He's a Brave.

In my mind, 31 wouldn't be retired for just one of the two guys. I mean, if Fergie was gonna get his number retired, I think it would have been a long time. However, since two great, but not quite legendary, Cubs wore the number, it deserves to be retired for the both of them.
The thing you need to remember is that all Cardinals fans and all White Sox fans are very bad people. It's a fact that has been scientifically proven beyond a shadow of a doubt. Being a Cubs fan is the only path to rightousness and piousness. Cardinal and White Sox fans exist to be the dark, diabolical forces that oppose us. They are the yin to our yang, the Joker to our Batman, the demon to our angel, the insurgence to our freedom, the oil to our water, the club to our baby seal. Their happiness occurs only in direct conflict with everything that is pure and good in this world.
