It's A Shame We Never Acquired Brad Wilkerson
#16
Wilkerson was a very nice player in Montreal, kind of a mini Adam Dunn, had nice power, walked a lot, struck out a ton, mediocre average, dumbass on the bases, despite decent speed.

After that he kinda declined some and then as KB said completely fell off the map in Texas. I think he always had too big of a hole in his swing and eventually it caught up to him.

I think he kinda got a bad rep around here because of the NSBB guys and WeGotWilkerson sucking his dick so hard, but he was a nice player for a few years anyway.

He could actually play all three outfield spots and first base as well. KB's steroid suspicion is also pretty well founded in my book.

Not by anyone with at least 1 function neuron.

Do you mean 1 functioning neuron?
As a 25 year-old, he had a 117 OPS+, and could play multiple positions. IOW, he did what DeRosa did last year for us, only he was 25 instead of 33 (although DeRo was, in my opinion, much MORE valuable because the positions he could play were more valuable positions).
He was 2nd in the ROTY voting.
I think a player like that is a budding star, especially since he followed it up with two almost identical seasons.
And for at least one year, he was the best player on his team.
It was a lousy team, but he was probably on the cover of the media guide, or something.

Maybe not a "STAR," but close.

brad wilkerson was many things, but star wasn't one of them. take out the 32 home runs he hit one year and he was almost brutal.

I guess my definition of star must be different than some. I reserve that label for only those exceptional offensive players who also have the ability to play their positions at or near a GG level. Aside from the power dept and his high OBP for a few seasons, Wilkerson projected to be a high quality 4th or 5th OF, and nothing more. Maybe I'm wrong, but there's a reason why he bounced around so much.

Damnit, KB you had to go and change the last line of your post.

Well, whatever he was, he sucked balls for the past 3 years.
Age 31 is damn young for even a decent player to hang up his spikes, but I suppose the $15 mil he made will cushion the landing considerably.

What really ended up being the dumb decision on Bowden's part was not trading Soriano in July of 06.

They had to really think they had a chance to re-sign him. They were in a new city, with a new park on the horizon and trying to get a star player signed had to be their highest priority. I am in DC Monday through Friday, and the Adam Dunn promoting that they do is sickening.

How much would it suck to cheer for a team that no one would want to play for?
