But, he was not a good hitter for a whole lot longer in his career than he was a good hitter. What if this is just him?
Also, am I the only one who thinks he has definitely put on some weight? He attributed his two breakout years to losing a lot of weight, and claims he still kept it down this offseason, but to my eye, he looks pudgier than last year.

He looks the same to me, but I was scared coming into the year that he'd be a huge letdown.

Soto has 8 walks in his last 8 games after not having any in his first 5 games. I really think that is as big a sign as any that he will start hitting pretty soon. Now having said that i don't think he will come close to replicating his 08 numbers but he will be an above average offensive catcher.

Ace, I definitely think Soto looks fatter. I remember that Lou complained that he cam into the Spring out of shape. Lou blamed in on the WBC, but I think he was just saying that Soto gained weight.

maybe it'll be the Cubs rookie of the year curse. Walton won it, then went in the shitter. Wood won it, then needed tommy john surgery. Soto?

Soto was behind everyone in ST because of the WBC. Catchers are notoriously slow starters in general. Also, he's looked better over the past 5-6 games (he should have a lot more hits than he has) than he did during the first 10-12, and he missed some time too, remember? I'm not worried......yet.

It's hard to believe that catchers ever have weight problems. Is there a more physically demanding job in sports?
I hadn't thought about Soto's girth, and I didn't know that Lou had called him out, but now I'm worried; his change from Crash Davis to MLB star was thought to be entirely because of the weight loss. How could he be so careless?
There's nothing better than to realize that the good things about youth don't end with youth itself. It's a matter of realizing that life can be renewed every day you get out of bed without baggage. It's tough to get there, but it's better than the dark thoughts. -Lance

Yeah I think he is going to be fine. He is still putting up a pretty good obp considering his avg. He has hit some ball pretty hard of late too.

Teams are pitching him away. It takes adjustments but he's been working hard with Perry on it and I think we'll start to see some results soon. When you try to pull those pitches, you're going to weakly ground out to the left side and that's what happened a lot to Lee last year. In only 48 plate appearances, Soto leads(tied with 4 others) MLB in GIDP with 5.
