Manny suspended 50 games
#16
I wonder what the drug actually is.

Either way, FUCK the Dodgers.

Maybe it's something for his ADD.

By the way, if Boras or Manny think anyone is going to buy the "prescription drug" bullshit after everything that has gone down, they are nuts.

The only downside to this is that the Dodgers only pay about a third of his salary and then get him back in July for the stretch run. I'd rather they suspend him starting in late August and run it through the end of the season.

This definitely caused a "Holy Shit" from me at lunch today.

And good for baseball. It should cause no more of a black eye to the sport than Merriman's suspension did to the NFL.

the holier than thou attitude of Selig, and also many a sports writers, has made it a much bigger deal in baseball. Selig is the highest paid commish in sports. He just about let mlb go down the toilet and was saved by steroid users. And sports writers who covered these athletes while they were using steroids now make a big deal about not voting them into the hall of fame.
I like you guys a lot.

I think this is pretty funny:

QUOTE "Recently I saw a physician for a personal health issue. He gave me a medication, not a steroid, which he thought was OK to give me," Ramirez said. "Unfortunately, the medication was banned under our drug policy. Under the policy that mistake is now my responsibility. I have been advised not to say anything more for now.

"I do want to say one other thing; I've taken and passed about 15 drug tests over the past five seasons. I want to apologize to [Dodgers owner Frank] McCourt, Mrs. McCourt, [manager Joe] Torre, my teammates, the Dodger organization, and to the Dodger fans. LA is a special place to me and I know everybody is disappointed. So am I. I'm sorry about this whole situation."

After consultation with the Players' Association and his personal representatives, Ramirez waived his right to challenge the suspension. He will lose nearly $8 million of his $25 million salary.

Why exactly would he waive his right to challenge the suspension if he did not knowingly take a PED?

I doubt it. He may actually be one of those hitters that comes along once an ERA that is just THAT gifted.

Manny's Banned Substance Enhances Sex Drive

QUOTE It's possible, if rumors of the source of the positive drug test are true, that the sexual enhancer could have been used to boost testosterone for those coming off a steroids cycle.

EDIT: Hmm, I also saw this link: Manny Ramirez suspended 50 games

QUOTE 1:30pm: ESPN's T.J. Quinn and Mark Fainaru-Wada say the drug was hCG - "a women's fertility drug typically used by steroid users to restart their body's natural testosterone production as they come off a steroid cycle. It is similar to Clomid, the drug Bonds, Giambi and others used as clients of BALCO."

I don't' know about that anymore. It's funny because like a few days ago, Fella and I were saying how incredible Manny and Pujols are in this era for putting up the numbers they do and not juicing. Well so much for that, with Manny at least. And Pujols... dude's a physical specimen. He was a community college player that nobody wanted in 1999. In 2001, he's hitting .330/30/100 and hasn't stopped. Yeah he worked hard and improved as a hitter, but that's quite a ridiculous jump. I have my doubts. I think he's really 32 as well.

I've always suspected Pujols of juicing. This, while not directly related to Pujols, makes me even more suspicious. Somehow he's getting away with it, but I pray that he gets busted soon.
