Preston Gomez.
I wish that I believed in Fate. I wish I didn't sleep so late. I used to be carried in the arms of cheerleaders.
If you could pick any manager......

I don't know if there is a "perfect" manager, but I've felt for a while that I'd like our manager to be an ex-Cub -- someone who really understands the culture surrounding the team and the unique pressures involved with playing for the Cubs. Whenever Ryno feels like he's ready, I'm ready for him.<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd--> I'm a little torn on Ryno. On one hand I would love to see it. On the other, once he inevitably fails to manage a winner, the media will gut him and he will be run out of the job. I would hate to see a Cubs legend that admire go out on a bad note like that. I want him to be our version of Tommy Lasorda, but that won't happen unless he wins... and he won't win... no one will ever win. Fucking Cubs.
Some men are born mediocre, some men achieve mediocrity, and some men have mediocrity thrust upon them.

I think Ryno would be fine. Yeah he might not win a world series, but people love him and the Cubs have enough resources that we are going to be putting winners on the field on a regular basis for the foreseeable future.
A lot of managers have had bad endings here, but I don't think Lou will, he probably won't win a title but he has had winning teams every year. I expect him to manage through 2010 and then leave. I don't think Ryno would either. I also think Ryno has a real good understanding of the game and how to treat the players and you never know, maybe he would finally be the guy that finally brought one home. Highly unlikely, I know, but if so, he would become the biggest legend in Cubs history by a mile. I'm sure he would like the chance.
