Which 6 teams would you propose to axe?

- Nationals
- Marlins

Who else? Any other team I can think of is either profitable or has fairly solid fanbase.
<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
Maybe Pittsburgh, but they have a lot of history. Up until last season, Tampa would have been on the short list, and maybe even KC. None of those are clear cut, but you could make a case for others. It just isn't a compelling case considering how teams from leagues that are in much worse shape than MLB, like NHL and some NBA teams, are in no danger of contraction.

pittsburgh, kansas city, tampa bay, and arizona as well as the nationals and and marlins.

in case anyone missed it, i didn't say this would ever happen, just that it should. the fact that ruby said it shouldn't leads me to believe i'm onto something.

And I was asking you who should be contracted -- not who would be contracted.

I'd just like to know what positive effects you think it would have because I don't see any.

No team with a new(er) stadium is going to get contracted, so that basically leaves the Rays and the Marlins. The Marlins have a deal for ballpark and the Rays went to the World Series, so they are both out.

There needs to be some realignment, I can't believe more teams aren't outraged that the AL West has 4 teams the NL Central has 6. I don't care how bad the teams are, that's still total crap.

I also think it affects the NL in an adverse way since we have more teams and thus more competition for a finite amount of revenue. This gives an unfair advantage to the AL since we have more small market teams in the NL. If one weaker team were shipped off to the AL it would help balance things out not just in terms of dollars, but in terms of talent as well.

NL East: Mets, Phils, Braves, Nationals, Marlins
NL Central: Cubs, Cards, Brewers, Reds, Pirates
NL West: Giants, Dodgers, Padres, D-Bags, Astros

AL East: Yanks, Sox, Jays, Rays, Orioles
AL Central: Sox, Royals, Tigers, Indians, Twins
AL West: Rangers, Angels, A's, Mariners, Rockies

What do we have to do to make this happen?

It's clear to me that the Astros don't belong in our division.

Exactly how I would align it as well.

You make interleague play ongoing throughout the season (not every team playing every team, just spread the existing number of games over the span of 162 instead of a couple of isolated weeks) and there isn't an issue.

With that ballpark the Rockies probably wouldn't have an issue, Coors is made for a DH. The Astros remain in the NL and Texas continues to have an NL and an AL team for the people that would be bothered by that. It really needs to get done and it's astounding to me that Selig hasn't already done it.

I agree with everything except the highlighted statement. Selig is a giant dope and no boneheaded move he has made (or hasn't made) has surprised me.

Makes sense to me. And anyone who still believes that interleague play needs to have its own designated time during the season isn't paying attention. The "newness" of it all has worn off to a great extent. Just integrate the games into the entire season and be done with it already. You wanna improve balance and stop treating some games as a sideshow? Get over yourself already and do what's best for the game, Selig.

I just think its completely unfair that one set of teams have a 25% chance of making the playoffs and one set of teams have a 16% chance of making the playoffs (not including the wildcard). No other sport does that, and it's total bullshit.

And actually by spreading the games out, you might bring back some more interest to it. There could be an "Interleague Matchup of the Week." Instead of having the Sox-Cubs, Mets-Yanks, Dodgers-Angels, etc. all playing at basically the same time, you have one marque interleague matchup per week and probably elevate the interest level there a little.
