So what's going to change this season?

At least until Soriano makes his first error. Lou has been pretty knee-jerk this season.

I have a hard time picturing Alf back at second. Can anyone see him trying to turn a double-play?

I think it's a colossally dumb idea. 2B isn't even the problem. 3B is.

What's worse is that we knew depth at 3b was a problem going into the season, and we never addressed it.

At this point, I really don't give a shit. If anything gets the bats going, I'm all for it. Our defense hasn't been the problem. With DLee starting to hit, you don't want to take him out. Hoff is one of the few guys who's been hitting pretty steady. So getting him playing time is fine.

I got nothin'.

It's time to end this 24 man roster bullshit and send Patton back to Colorado.

we're still above .500 in may...let's ride the wave a bit before we freak out.

Bing-fucking-go.
And the 24-man thing is fucking absurd too.
Shit-can Patton, bring up Jake Fox, do something.
Fuck.

Agreed. We're 11-7 this month. Not spectacular, but not horrible either. Yeah, the last few games haven't been good, but I doubt things are going to stay that way. People criticize Lou for being knee-jerk, but some of the suggestions in this thread are even more so (dropping Hill and Freel for instance).

Yeah, it'd be great to be in first place, but we're not that far back. Still plenty of time to take it.

Freel doesn't even look like an adequate major league player at this point. He hasn't hit worth a shit since 2006. I'm not sure giving up on him in the near future would be a knee jerk reaction at all.

Man, I didn't realize just how shitty Freel has been his entire career!
His career OPS plus is freaking 89. The last two years, it's been 82 and 67. (!)

Near future, yeah. Right this instant would be knee jerk though perhaps.

EDIT: looking at his stats, maybe not so much. Fox should be called up and started at 3rd.

Small sample size, I know. But this year, Freel's OPS+ is.................five.

3 singles for 2009

Will he "turn it around" at age 33? How does this man have a job? How does he have a career? He's basically a much worse Aaron Miles, yet he's made nearly $8 million dollars in his career.

(I don't know that much about him, but I assume that he must be an Ozzie Smith-caliber fielder, correct? That would be the only plausible explanation for his continued employment.)

The problem is that Fontenot isn't hitting. He's been better at 3rd than DeRosa this year.

Freel's been one of the best utility men in baseball for years. He can play a bunch of positions adequately, he plays harder than anybody on the team, has some very good speed, and is a .270+ hitter when he's right. He's useful. You need to throw away OPS+ for some players in baseball, that's not a fair way to measure a player like Freel.
