If Freel's out for any length of time, it will be interesting to see what they do. My guess is Scales would come back up.

They really need to make a move for an infielder. Fontenot, Theriot and Scales/Blanco is not gonna cut it.

<!--quoteo-->QUOTE <!--quotec-->Manager Lou Piniella said Wednesday that he's not yet ready to try Jake Fox at third base.
Piniella wants Fox to work with bench coach Alan Trammel to make sure he's not an egregious defensive liability. "We'd love to have his bat in the lineup," Piniella said. "Let's see him over there for a few more days working with Alan and I'll let Alan make that determination."<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->

Fox hasn't gotten a single start yet right?
I know he's not Ozzie Smith out there, but surely he deserves more of a shot. I know he's gotten at-bats, but I'd like to see this kid get some consistent PT. With that said, call the Pirates and see if Freddy Sanchez is available. Or the Orioles with Aubrey Huff--he can play 1b, 3b and OF. Both those guys are rumored to be on the block.

They're giving him every shot to get some playing time there, but if he can't do it, he can't do it.
And it seems like he can't lay off a major league slider. He was completely lost last night.

Well, it appears that Lou is almost brave enough to let Fox start at third, according to a quote this morning. I'm going to the game on Thursday night and would love to see Fox at third and Micah in right and see if we can't make Turner field look like the old launching pad.

I don't get Piniella in this situation. I could see if everyone was raking and he didn't want to disrupt good flow--but what does he have to lose giving him one freakin' start in this lineup?
