No doubt. Even though we are in the hunt I'd prefer to rebuild because this team is so unlikable. I want players I actually enjoy watching play and outside of a very few I cannot say that about this team.

No chance of rebuilding until after next year, just based on contracts.

I hate this team right now too. But we've waited 100 years and you guys want to start over because the team is unlikeable? I don't get it. We're only a few games out.

What about the last 6 months has suggested that the Cubs can add salary?
Until ownership deal is completed, I don't see any moves beyond salary/near salary neutral type deals for the remainder of the year.
Hopefully, I am wrong. It wouldn't be the first time.
The Cubs need to be able to deal with the team that Hendry put together for the third highest salary in baseball.

I wouldn't be opposed at all to trading for Freddy Sanchez. He's a career .300 hitter with a batting title and is a very sound defender. With him and a healthy A-Ram, our infield would look really good.
The only problem is figuring out who we have with enough value for the Pirates to agree to such a deal.

There was a blip in the LA times this morning suggesting the Cubs trade Lee to the Giants, as they have Hoffpaiuer and Fox.
What's available there or a three way??
Fat Bastard is an immensely obese, hardly able to walk (weighing a metric ton) gardener and henchman hailing from Scotland. His extreme size endows Fat Bastard with super-human strength as exhibited by his prowess in the Sumo ring from Goldmember. This makes him a formidable enemy for Austin Powers. Fat Bastard is noted for his foul temper, his frequent flatulence, his vulgar and revolting bad manners and his unusual eating habits, which include taste for Human infants (which he calls "the other other white meat") or anything that looks like a baby, e.g. small people. Fat Bastard has been a regular at Cub games since the early 80's when he tried several times (unsuccessfully) to eat the visiting San Diego Chicken.

It would be stupid to trade Lee. We should be looking to add hitters, not trade the only one who is actually doing well at the moment. I think the only two positions we can realistically look to improve are SS or 2B.

That would be foolish.

Disagree mightily. Lee is not a terrible hitter - at least not as terrible as he looked late last year and early this year - but neither is he the hitter he's been the last month and a half. He gets big money last year, and although Hoff and Fox don't fully replace him, they're close, and it frees up money for the Cubs to pick up... um... well, I'm sure there's a spot that the Cubs could add a bat. I say dump him like the fat girl in study hall.

I don't even know if I actually believe what I said. I'm just really frustrated - today didn't really help much.

Hoff and Fox can't replace him at first, it's not close. Hoff can't hit lefties, and you can't put Fox at first base. I also think if Hoff played everyday we'd see some of his holes exposed. You don't deal the one guy on the team that is drilling the ball, and he's still terrific at first base. He's also the leader of the team on top of that. Yeah, he's not going to keep up the 1.000+ OPS and whatnot, but he's still a very good hitter. I just don't see how dealing him makes us better, and when you're a contending team, you don't get worse to save a few bucks for the future. This team is built to win now and must do everything possible to win now. Those calling for a blowup of the team are absolutely out of their minds and thank God they're not near the front office of this team.
