Ten starts in and I am quite impressed. I figured the league would figure him out by now. Right now I think he is our best pitcher. He wasn't even considered a prospect. Is he really this good? How long will it last?

Once he starts pitching like this against teams on the second and third time around, I'll be really impressed.

Bingo. See Soto's struggles, Hoffpauir's struggles, and Fontenot's struggles. They all have fallen ill to the scouting report if you ask me. [Not to mention all three prefer to hit heaters]

He really hasn't pitched against many really good hitting ballclubs yet for me to get too excited. Let's see how he does around 15-20 starts against most of the league.

I take exception to the idea that he "wasn't even considered a prospect". He's as much a prospect as Marmol was and as Larry Suarez is.

I keep expecting him to come down to earth, and he keeps throwing 1-run ballgames. He's been a blessing.
And remember, he should have at least 3-4 more wins on his record than he does; it was almost comical how the team kept screwing him out of wins for awhile there.

Yeah, he should have at least 6. Good to see him getting some run support his last 3 starts. I'm still not convinced on him though.

Why do you "take exception"? It's not like you gave birth to him...or maybe you did? Or maybe you think he's cute and have a KWesque attachment to him.

I feel the same way as you Rok. But I have this reserved opitimism that he will be something great. Similar to Marmol he bagan his career as a catcher but was converted in 2004. He is fairly new to pitching and his risen through the ranks rather quickly. It would be huge for the Cubs for him to be a cheap top notch starter since we have some dead money issues in the next few years.

I agree w/ ruby23, i hate when we walk guys and give the other team the advantage! If he keeps throwing over th plate then hes a valuable pitcher.

He does indeed, and that's why I'd like to see how he fares throwing strikes against some of the better hitting teams (if there are any in the NL at this point) before I start sending him love letters.
