-The fuel had a side effect which altered DNA?
-That was a bug, and not a feature?
-Why did the aliens have to work on the fuel in secret? If the humans goal was to get rid of them, wouldn't we have been more than happy to get them the fuel so they could leave?<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->

-I'm guessing that it wasn't simply fuel, but some sort of biological/chemical multi-purpose substance that contained alien DNA. This would be consistent with how the rest of the alien technology (mainly weaponry) had a biological aspect to it.
-Possibly, but I hadn't thought of that angle.
-The prawns didn't want to share any of their technological secrets, and I would guess that Multinational would try to steal this fuel formula to cash in if the prawns didn't work on it in secret. If you think about it, Multinational would lose out on a ton of business (providing security, replicating their technology) if the prawns went back home, and I think the aliens understood this.

Yeah, using "bug" was probably the wrong choice of words, given the context of the movie.

I simply meant that the fact that the fluid caused a human to turn into an alien was an accidental by-product, and not any sort of scheme by the aliens to start turning us into them.
I wish that I believed in Fate. I wish I didn't sleep so late. I used to be carried in the arms of cheerleaders.
