Bradley
QUOTE (Coach @ Sep 18 2009, 11:14 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>Do other cities' coverage of their team affect them as much as the Cubs?
I'm sure the media coverage is worse here than it is in San Diego or Texas, but Bradley had problems in both of those places, so I don't think it really matters. If it isn't Paul Sullivan harassing him, it's the umpires or it's the color man in the booth, or it's the 1B coach or it's the fans. He'll find a reason to be disgruntled wherever he is. We just need to learn to live with it.

I think you were correct to turn the question back around to Milt and away from a Chicago media question. The fishbowl has to be worse in New York and just as bad in Philly and Boston. Who else is suffering under the withering gaze of Sullivan and his ilk besides Bradley? He's a hothouse flower. He needs some life-coaching or something. His ball-playing isn't the problem and might be be notches better if he could ignore the distractions...or not go looking for them.

Just reading that last article made me want to punch Sullivan, so I'm sure if I were Bradley or Zambrano I would've probably choked him by now.

But yes, they just need to learn to ignore the distractions, but I could see how that could be easier said than done for some of the players.

Do any of the other Chicago media members complain about Sullivan?

I'll take Sullivan over Phil Rogers any day of the week.

Rogers may be the greater fool, but I don't think there is a single sportswriter in world who I'd like to punch in the nads more than Sullivan.

Remember that Scoop Jackson article written right after the Sox World Series? That was the worst piece of garbage I've ever read. Not only was the premise completely faulty, but the grammar was poor and the prose was clunky. It read like an 8th grader's blog post. Based on that article alone, he will always be the sportswriter I most want to give a nut-punching. Sullivan is a very close second, though.

I can't forget the Phil Rogers' prediction in spring that Carpenter would win 25 games this year.

Yup, no one has done it since the A's Welch(?) in 1990 but this guy predicts a guy coming off an injury with a history of being injury prone will do it for the Cubs rivals. Yup, that's class. He could have simply said that Carpenter had the best stuff of anyone in spring training or just would be tough to beat but instead he predicts that he will win more games than anyone has in almost 20 years.

Just to show no hard feelings for the jerk, I'll help Phil get a start for his column next March, Albert Pujols will hit 75 HRs and have 170 RBIs in 2010.

It is not a matter of the Chicago media being tough, it is that they are crappy. Decide what story to tell, and find the facts/qoutes to fit it. Journalism is bullshit these days.

I like you guys a lot.

I wasn't even sure if Scoop Jackson was still writing these days, otherwise, maybe he'd get my vote as the biggest disgrace in journalism. And again, there's no doubt that Rogers is the most clueless baseball writer in the city, and possibly even in the country. On the other hand, Sully simply makes my blood boil. He's an embarrassment to the vertically challenged and to those of us who actually work for a living. He should be reclined on a street corner somewhere mumbling to himself with a tin cup beside him, not working for the largest newspaper in the city.

With apologies to the Who...

My name is Milt and I'm a headcase
They practice lining up to get in my face

I'm a Cub, I'm a Cub
But the fans won't admit it
I'm a Cub, I'm a Cub
But if I say I am I get it

Because I can handle him yelling at the media if he put's up an .821 OPS.

Because there are no better options.

Because there are worse ways a player can conduct himself, like shooting himself in the leg, driving under the influence, punching cab drivers, "making it rain" in strip clubs, etc.

You can pick one of those, I don't really care which.

his is the weakest .821 ops ever. you know it. he's like adam dunn, but with no power. if he didn't take a walk, he'd be useless. the best thing you can say about him is that he isn't a criminal. yippy fucky doo! and anything is a better option. i'd rather see fox get the job than have this douchebag come back.

His OPS isn't even the problem you have with him. You're obsessed with the way the guy conducts himself.

So he's not a model citizen. He's still is the best option the Cubs have in right field next year. Do you really want to make the Cubs a worse team because he Milton Bradley cries from time to time?
