Bradley isn't giving us much to work with. He throws out "hatred" and "racism," but doesn't give us anything concrete. What are we supposed to do with that? It isn't as if this scenario hasn't played out with Bradley before...
<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

Would it have really mattered if he did give a specific example? You've acted like giving an example would justify his acusations.

As for why? My guess would be he knew he was already ankle deep in shit and didn't want to push down further.

Something concrete would at least give security something to work with going forward. By being so vague, I also think it implies that it's larger than it truly is. One or two douchebags in the bleachers could have yelled something once or twice (not excusing that kind of thing -- but at least it would be an isolated incident)...or the entire RF bleachers could've worn blackface to the game, if we're left to work with Bradley's information. Or somewhere in between. Nobody has any idea because he is only saying that there's "a lot of hatred."

What are we supposed to do with this information? Is it supposed to get the fans to feel sorry for him and get them on his side? If so, he should rethink that strategy, because it's having the opposite effect.

Anybody remember this game?

<!--quoteo-->QUOTE <!--quotec-->True Colors

From: Milton Bradley
Players: 3-6 (5 or 6 is best)
Playing Time: 20-30 minutes

Just how well do you know your friends? More importantly, how well do they know you? Find out what people really think about you in True Colors, a delightfully light-hearted "adult conversation game" where the scoring is completely secondary to the fun.<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->

Yep. Kind of a fun game, but when everyone knows each other, it's real obvious who to pick for what.
I got nothin'.

Here's another possibility for why; he's fucking batshit crazy.

I know last year was a relatively quiet year for him. But he did try to charge up to the broadcast booth when he heard they criticized something he did on the field. They tried to downplay that shit, but you know he was having one of his fucking tantrums. If he reacts like that in a market like Arlington, then who knows where the fuck this guy can play.

Bradley just caught a routine flyball, and he got a pretty big ovation from the right field bleachers, to which he gave a couple bows to. Kind of odd...not sure if it was sarcasm or if he was actually having a good time with them.
The thing you need to remember is that all Cardinals fans and all White Sox fans are very bad people. It's a fact that has been scientifically proven beyond a shadow of a doubt. Being a Cubs fan is the only path to rightousness and piousness. Cardinal and White Sox fans exist to be the dark, diabolical forces that oppose us. They are the yin to our yang, the Joker to our Batman, the demon to our angel, the insurgence to our freedom, the oil to our water, the club to our baby seal. Their happiness occurs only in direct conflict with everything that is pure and good in this world.

He's a crazy psycho and we all knew this. It's amazing to me when people sound surprised. Who gives a fuck if he's hitting? He hasn't hit enough this year, that's the problem. Not his attitude, complaints about the fans, etc. He can shit on my face and bang my mom if he hits over .300 with a .950+ OPS like we got him to do. But I keep reading this "just cut him" shit. Give me a fucking break.

You know what? I love that shit. All he needs to do is show a little love and he'll get it back.

I don't want to cut or even trade Bradley. We won't get equal value in return, and I'm thinking he'll bounce back next season (if healthy).

Funny that you mention that, because I'm still pulling for the guy even though he's completely insane. I still want badly for him to become a fan favorite even after all this shit. I'm being 100% honest too.

I live in Topeka, Kansas. This means I have a certain familiarity with the Reverend Fred Phelps, the so-called "Westboro Baptist Church," their motives and their methods.

If you're not familiar with this kook, use the Google. He's a hateful nutjob who thrives on attention and he's discovered that by pushing people's buttons he can tap into an endless supply. He's a genius at this. He has one primary message...that America's tolerance of homosexuals is the reason for everything bad that happens...in the form of God's punishment...which we richly deserve and of which he approves.

So he runs around picketing public events...it used to be the funerals of famous gay people or to celebrate things like Matthew Shepard's murder. That got to be old news and when only the core activist community and those personally offended could be bothered to show up and be angry at him, he realized that gimmick was becoming played out. He stumbled onto a much better tactic. Picket the funerals of fallen soldiers...the logic goes like this: The country is being punished by god for it's tolerance of gay people. That's why your son or daughter died over there.

Talk about a hot button. It's brilliant. It was the specific cause for the formation of the Patriot Guard...now everywhere he goes, he's a photo-op again. He smiles, holding his hateful signs and big burly bikers with huge American flags (people that would never lift a finger to offer emotional support at the death of an AIDS victim) show up in force. I don't know why people would care what some nut says is the reason their loved one was paying a toll for our nation to God but hay, that's just me.

Bear with me, I'm getting to my analogy.

They picket anywhere they can get press. They picketed some nominally Jewish events and one of their signs reminds us that "The Jews Killed Christ" or some-such. Now in the sea of polemic they spew this is one little sign amongst many and frankly, it's off-message. It exists because that hot-button won't be ignored...it's just one more sign and there's always another grandkid to tote one more sign.

The reaction to this from the Anti-Defamation League is that the guy is a anti-semetic threat. They focus on this one provocative expression among many to decide that's what these people are all about...they're anti-semetic. They focus on that to the exclusion of all other information about the Phelpses.

It's crap.

So back to Milton...all this shit is swirling around him and his season in Chicago. Maybe ALL of the swirling shit is misguided and wrong...that's not the point. Somebody that wants to hurt Bradley yells "watermelon" or whatever. Maybe that person IS a racist and maybe he isn't. That's not the point either.

The point is that this is all it takes for anyone who wants to, including Milton to make this <i>all about </i>racism...for them to say what's going down is because Milton is black and the problem is racism.

It's horseshit.<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->

straw nailed it too!

face it, bradley thinks everyone who speaks out against him is racist. it's easy. he doesn't have to take responsibility for his actions that way. jeff kent? racist. umpires? racist. fans? racist. broadcasters? racist. the kkk? racist.
<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

This is what is really confusing me... what actions is he not taking responsibility for with the fans? His suckiness? He has already told the media and fans that he's played like shit and will work to improve... and he did! Since the all-star break, he has hit .277/.400/.437 in the second half this season. He absolutely owned up to it and improved himself.

Why would he play the race card just to avoid taking responsibility for his actions when he has been playing much better lately? That part of the equation just doesn't make sense to me.
<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

scarey, people are booing bradley. they've been booing him all year. they aren't booing him becuase he's black. they aren't booing him because he's surley. they aren't booing him because they didn't like the signing like they did with jones. they're booing him because for 4 months, he was terrible. that's what he doesn't seem to get. that's where the lack of responsibility for his actions come in.

if he would have said this:

reporter: milton, the fans are really letting you have it. how does that make you feel?

bradley: i don't like it but i understand it. i haven't played well, i'm making a lot of money, and expectations are high. i don't like being booed, but i know that if i start hitting and the teams starts winning, the boo's will go away.

instead we get:

reporter: milton, the fans are really letting you have it. how does that make you feel?

bradley: well there's a lot of hatred in the bleachers. waiter's pick on me at restaurants. i can't wait to get out of wrigley because i don't feel comfortable because of racists out there. and blah blah blah.

see where the whole "doesn't take responsibilty" comes form?
Wang.

He actually did say he deserved it in past interviews when he was sucking. Now that he's hitting over .300 at Wrigley though he's changed his tune.

For instance, he said this back in June about the response DeRosa received when he came back to Wrigley:

<!--quoteo-->QUOTE <!--quotec-->'I just know that it sucks when you had a guy here in DeRosa that you know the guys loved, the media, I guess, liked him as well, and the fans liked him,'' Bradley said. ''And he was good and productive and still is. And you come in and essentially replace him and you're sucking it up. It's not a good feeling.

''When you see the response that the fans give him and then the response that I get, I deserve it.''<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->

See, I won't assume that this is what Bradley thinks. I'm more inclined to think that using this issue to change the subject is something he finds expedient.

Here's another anecdote for you all.

At the post office this morning I was next in line when I overturn the postal clerk explain to the customer ahead of me that he had offered something other than the lowest available postal rate to some previous customer because that for 5 cents more their parcel could arrive sooner and that he "wasn't trying to jew him out of a nickel."

I'm Jewish. I also have a pretty pragmatic attitude about this shit. But I get to go through life listening to this stuff from people that never consider the presence of Jews in their midst.

Now I don't think that as an American Jew I've known the oppression that African-Americans grow up with but I'm pretty sure that most black people no longer have to listen to such casual, offhand bigotry spoken as though it were the most benign thing in the world to say.

Some times I think I'd just prefer to be called a kike by those with the balls and the motivation to stand up and be proud of the neandertals they really are. On the other hand, I'd rather bigots out themselves and I'm guessing if I wore a yarmulke I'd be less aware of who these assholes are.
