These days at Wrigley, you get booed if you go 0-fer.<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->

I honestly don't think the Braves fans care enough to boo. They got bored after winning the divsion so many years in a row. To the point that they didn't sell out playoff games anymore.

They've booed Contreras mercilessly the last few seasons.

Milton Bradley gets booed constantly, anytime he doesn't do something good. The dude is hitting .291/.415/.436 since the All-Star break. He's hitting .316/.432/.513 at home on the season. Sure, boo him for throwing the ball out of play when the inning isn't over. But there's zero reason for him to get booed after a pop out. It's ridiculous.
The thing you need to remember is that all Cardinals fans and all White Sox fans are very bad people. It's a fact that has been scientifically proven beyond a shadow of a doubt. Being a Cubs fan is the only path to rightousness and piousness. Cardinal and White Sox fans exist to be the dark, diabolical forces that oppose us. They are the yin to our yang, the Joker to our Batman, the demon to our angel, the insurgence to our freedom, the oil to our water, the club to our baby seal. Their happiness occurs only in direct conflict with everything that is pure and good in this world.

Not excusing it, but part of the reason some of our guys get booed is because of our moronic sportswriters (I'm including Steve Stone in that bunch, even though he isn't technically a sportswriter).

Again, nobody (except tom, perhaps) is excusing the behavior. I'm just saying it isn't unique to Wrigley -- like many people seem to think.

We have had the same booing discussions on my College football board as well.

It happens EVERYWHERE on a consistent basis. Its not unique or different at Wirgley in any way.

Its just new because for years fans at Wrigley never did boo, in the 80's they really were there to drink and have fun and watch their lovable losers. Times have changed, fans want winners and a WS. They are sick of losing every year, so they boo now.

I agree that I would never boo my own team or players, but all fan bases have morons and people who boo at every turn.

I don't like this new trend either, believe me, but if it weren't for the fact that our fans seemingly didn't give a shit about wins or losses for SO many years and that in general crowds perpetuate stupid behavior (not just Wrigley crowds) where it's monkey see, monkey do, it wouldn't raise an eyebrow in another market. It's the fact that things have changed so rapidly that makes everyone in the media so shocked by how certain players are treated here nowadays. Let's see how things evolve in a few years before we say that our fans are the most reactionary in baseball. The fanbase is going through an unprecedented amount of turmoil and angst for the first time in a generation, so I'm willing to cut them some slack, even though some of their behavior disturbs me.

I think the booing thing that Bradley keeps bringing up is a red herring.

Let me ask you all a question. When you see shots of the dugout, do you ever see Bradley chatting with teammates, joking and chumming with them? I don't. I see him sitting silently by himself virtually every time I see him in there...unless he's participating in some of the high-five groping after a sac fly or whatever.

I think the bigger issue than whether he's getting fan love is the impression I have that he has no friends in the clubhouse. I don't know who's fault that is but I doubt 24 other guys give him the cold shoulder because they're all assholes.

I think that's a very interesting point. He's mentioned before that he doesn't have many friends in the clubhouse. That's odd though, because the overwhelming consensus (among guys that had played with him) before he got to Chicago was that he was a fantastic teammate.

Yeah, it sucks that you're getting booed, Bradley. I feel terrible for you. But these constant articles about Bradley being treated poorly...to what end? To make Cubs fans look like racists? To make us feel guilty? Is it supposed to stop a bunch of drunk retards from booing? Whatever. I'm tired of it.<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->
I don't think the sterotype that Wrigley is filled with a bunch of know-nothing, booing morons is really that far off, personally. It's not like it's an image that's being concocted in the media, it's what's happening.
<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
I hate to admit this, but most Cubs fans, and especially those in the bleachers know very little about the game and are only there for the atmosphere.

You could say that about all teams' fanbases, but the % of know-nothings is higher for the Cubs. It hurts me to say it.
<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
I really don't think that's true. St. Louis fans -- supposedly the "best fans in the world" or whatever self-proclaimed title they have -- aren't any different than Cubs fans. I was surrounded by Cards fans during the entire weekend I was down there for Koz's wedding. I stayed at the hotel right across the street from the stadium. Drunk morons everywhere after the game -- similar to Wrigleyville after a Cubs game. And the people I talked to -- all very nice people, mind you -- weren't a bunch of baseball geniuses by any stretch of the imagination. "Zambrano Mows My Lawn," anyone? Hell, you don't even have to travel to St. Louis. Just spend a few minutes at Bleacher Nation and find an amazing collection of mouth-breathing Cardinals fans posting away on Ace's blog.

Spend a couple of games at another team's stadium, and you'll find that most fans of every team are morons. I have found that to be the case, first-hand, in Miami, Arizona, Boston, St. Louis, and Detroit.

Fans get over-served at Wrigley. Lots. Especially in the bleachers. Maybe this doesn't happen at much in other stadiums. Plus, Wrigley is absolutely surrounded by bars. I'm not sure many other stadiums are like that.
<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

St. Louis is filled with moron fans. They have no room to talk when talking about the Cubs fans getting drunk. Their fucking stadium is named after a beer company. They have a damn outside bar in leftfield that not only serves beer but any kind of mixed drink you want. They have a section called the Party Porch for god's sake. They have suites in right field called the "Party Rooms".

I have also heard them boo plenty of players over the years. I remember them booing Eckersley. Hell they even gave him the nickname of Upper Deck Eck. I was at the playoff game where Ankiel totally fucking lost it against the Mets. They were booing the shit out of him. I could go on and on about the players I have heard them boo.

He probably fucked DeRosas wife right before we traded him for Bradley. DeRosa was really liked in the clubhouse...

I disagree. It does happen everywhere, I don't think anyone said different. What it doesn't do is happen everywhere as consistently and mercilessly as it happens at Wrigley, sorry I just don't see it. I've seen booing at Hawkeye games plenty (the Hawkeyes best player is always the backup QB), but I've never seen it with the same vitriol and frequency that seems to be happening at Wrigley.

Yankees fans and Phillies fans are far more relentless than Cubs fans if things aren't going their way -- it just so happens that things are going mostly their way this season (and last season, for the Phillies).

Even if we stipulate that Cub fans somehow do it more often than any other fans (I don't), doesn't it stand to reason that out of every fan base on the planet, Cub fans have far more reason to voice their displeasure?
