Here come the Stros
#1
They're only 1/2 game behind us, and have been playing probably the best ball in the divison for the past month. Would anyone be shocked if they snuck up on everyone and took the division before it's all said and done?

They seem to make a surprise run every season.

This run is a little early for them, but yeah -- they do this every season. Not surprising at all.

I would be shocked.
The Astros will not win the division.

Absolutely.

I don't think anything would shock me at this point, but I'm glad you all are confident.

The title of this makes it seem like the Astros have made up a bunch of ground or something though, that hasn't really happened. The entire division has been within about 5-6 games of each other the whole year.

They were 10 games under .500 on June 1, 9.5 games out of first, and in 6th place.

They are now 1 game under .500, 4 games out of first, and in 4th place.

They do this every season. Play like shit at the beginning and then surge. What worries me is that it appears their surge has started sooner. Not that it really matters if we're going to play .500 ball all season...

The Astros have been 16-12 over the past month.
Not exactly setting the world on fire, but that is good for this division.

16-11 in June and 6-3 so far in July. But yeah, for this division they've looked like the only team with a pulse.

And I wasn't trying to insinuate anything or stir up fear for the Astros. I just have noticed their little run recently, and it made me think about how they always are picked for dead and somehow end up factoring into the race each year. Maybe I shouldn't have started a thread for this purpose only.

Playing a series with Washington should give them a boost as well.

none of this shit would matter if the cubs would just start playing right. enough of this win 3, lose two bullshit. the have to get hot and they have to do it soon. it's time to start burying these teams.

alas, every day that goes by, i fear it will never happen.

I would give my left nut for the Cubs to win both games today!

Perusing our lineup for game 1, and given the fact that double headers are hard to sweep, I think the odds are stacked pretty heavily against us.
