I realize it's an old album, but I recently started listening to it again, and it's stunningly good. For those of you that don't know it, it's by The National, and my 2 and 5 year old love at least one song from it. I tried to get 2 of my buddies into it, and they both were not impressed last year. Now, after quite a bit of listening to it, they are completely in love with it. You really should give it a whirl.
I wish that I believed in Fate. I wish I didn't sleep so late. I used to be carried in the arms of cheerleaders.

Great album, great band. Alligator, Sad Songs, and the Cherry Tree EP (minus the last song) are all worth checking out as well.

I'm usually not into this type of music overall, but I agree it is a great album. I think I listened to it for 6 months straight when it first came out and never really got tired of it. It never gets old. I haven't gotten into their older albums as much, but they are pretty good too. It amazes me that they get no radio play here locally.

they played tonight at a festival in Chicago, but I missed it. I'm unsure what kind of live band they might be. Their music seems so personal, I'm not sure if it would translate to a crowd, let alone a festival crowd. I had one friend tell me they sucked at Lollapalooza last year, and another say they blew him away. I'm just not sure how it would work. For instance, "Fake Empire" is an absolutely gorgeous song, but I don't see it rocking the house.
Still would have liked to have seen them tonight.

BT, the first time I saw them was also at Pitchfork in Chicago, before Boxer came out. I think it was 3 years ago now and I was impressed right away, even though I wasn't that familiar with a lot of their stuff at the time. They have mellowed quite a bit since Boxer though - not too many rockers on there but a lot of those songs are much more alive on stage than on record. Funny you should mention Fake Empire - because once they get into the instrumental at the end it really does rock the house. And a lot of their stuff off Alligator they play is the same way - Mr. November, Abel, Secret Meeting - definitely 3 highlights of their live show. I guess I wouldn't ever say that they blew me away any of the times I've seen them, but they really aren't the kind of band to do that. They do put on a great show though and I'd recommend checking them out the next time around.

I'm not sure how well I'd handle a band that was 2 hours late to play. I don't care how much I liked them, that would seriously piss me off.
I got nothin'.
