Don't pull that shit on me fucker. You got here and without me saying shit to you you insult me, so you can shove that shit up your ass. You want a peace offering? Fine with me, but don't try to give me a fucking guilt trip.

nobody is abusing pcb. he likes to stand up for players on teams that most cub fans hate and he's getting shit for it. seems perfectly rational to me.

Oatmeal, you're new here, but this is a longstanding tradition here at SOI: guys who dislike the Sox and love the Cubs are considered traitors by some, because they don't hate the Sox.

I'm in the PcB and Clapp camp. I love tom and Butch, but I don't think "hating the White Sox" is a qualification for being a Cub fan. And I do like MLB in general, so I'm fascinated by great athletes (like Pujols) or great feats (like a Perfect Game). Doesn't mean I like the Cubs any less.

I think PcB's "Cubs" tattoo pretty much renders any suspicion of his allegiances moot.

Finally, I have to ask you guys this: if you had the choice of a Cardinal throwing a Perfect Game, or Buerhle doing it, who would you choose?
Be very careful how you answer this, because, IMO, it is a perfect litmus test to tell if you're really more of a Sox-hater than a Cub fan. (which would make you similar to the Sox "fans" who consider Cub losses more cool than Sox wins.)
Keep in mind that we could very well miss the playoffs by 1 game.

That's easy KB, if I could watch an actual bird pitch a baseball and pitch a perfect game I would choose that in a heartbeat.

You've completely missed where I've directed my rage in this thread, KB. But that's OK.

Let me try and make it a little more plain...

It's no secret that I dislike the White Sox. But I've never claimed you have to hate the Sox to be a true Cubs fan. Never.

My problem with all the Buehrle love is that he's a fucking dick about the Cubs. He isn't a "class act" as many have stated. He accused Greg Maddux of throwing spitballs. He has talked shit about Cubs fans and Wrigley Field. And he's been pretty outspoken about disliking the Cubs (he grew up a Cardinals fan, after all).

Not every White Sock is like that. Do you ever hear Jermaine Dye say that kind of stuff? How about Jim Thome? Nope.

If Jose Contreras (who, as far as I know, has never trashed the Cubs) threw a perfect game, I still wouldn't get all jazzed about it, but I could at least say that it's kind of cool that I witnessed history or whatever. But it wasn't Contreras who did it. It was Buehrle.

Buehrle = Cubs-hating douchebag

Contreras = just a random Sox pitcher that I don't give much of a shit about

See the difference?

I wanna hug Butch right now. Perfectly said, and I agree with every word.

Butch, that made perfect sense.
And I admit that "not living in Chicago" makes me immune to a lot of the bullshit that you guys have to put up with. Even the freaking President can't merely congratulate the pitcher, he has to make a dig at the Cubs. I get that.

I don't get laying into PcB and them for saying that it was a remarkable sporting event.

see that's the way i feel too. i hate the white sox. i don't give a shit how others feel about them. what drives me nuts is that every time we say something bad about the white sox, people fall all over themselves to defend them. why? why can't i hate the white sox? why does that bother people? i have no control over the way i feel. i can act like i'm enlightened and tell you that i don't care what happens to the white sox, but i'd be lying, because i do care. fuck them. i'd be just as pissed if gavin floyd threw the perfect game. that's my prerogative.

as a cub fan, there is absolutely nothing wrong with hating the white sox simply because they're the white sox. i don't need any other reason.

Tom, Butch, Rok,

Pick one: a Card loss turned into a Perfect Game by Carpenter, or Buerhle's PG being erased and replaced by him getting shelled that day.

I think you worded that weirdly.

Option one is really bad and option two is really good. So I'll pick option two.

Too much acid in the '60's.

I think what I meant was this: whether the Sox win or lose that day has ZERO effect on the NL Central standings. However, a Carp PG that turned a loss to a win has a huge effect on the Cub's chance of making the playoffs. So if Carp had thrown one, I'd be pissed.
Buerhle's PG was merely a sideshow, and doesn't affect the Cubs at all.
