Reed to DL, Stevens up
#1
So over on NSBB and on the Score (I guess) it's being reported that Johnson put on DL and Jeff Stevens was called back.

We now have 13 pitches. Any one else think that the Cubs are making a trade soon? We can't carry 13 pitchers and a short bench for long.

Wow, that really doesn't make sense.

Maybe there's a trade coming in the near future for a bat.

The only way to get Stevens back up within the next 10 days was for an injury. Maybe they are using this as an excuse to get him back up and will return Atkins for Fuld within the week.

I'm also wondering how much longer we can hide Miles at Iowa.

It's just a temp fix for today's game. That's all. With the deadline tomorrow before the game in Miami, it gives wiggle room. Good move.
I hate my pretentious sounding username too.

Looks like Fuld is on his way back to the Cubs
QUOTE The Cubs will add outfielder Sam Fuld to the roster Friday, apparently satisfied the left-handed hitter can fill the role of the right-handed Reed Johnson.

With Cubs' general manager Jim Hendry spending the last 24 hours acquiring left-handed pitchers John Grabow and Tom Gorzelanny, he has little time trying to pick up a backup outfielder before the interleague trading deadline expires at 3 p.m. Friday.

"We'll always keep our options open until end of it," Hendry said. "I hope something pops up between now and 3, but I wouldn't count on it. I don't have anything going like this [trade]."

Fuld and fellow center-fielder Kosuke Fukudome are both left-handed hitters but, according to Hendry, "If the other guys hit, one more left-handed guy who plays great defense or is an athletic guy in the lineup isn't going to make or break you.

"The way it was going, Reed was starting probably less than 25 percent of the time anyhow."

Fuld accompanied the team on its charter flight to Miami, although he won't be activated until just before the game against the Marlins. He will replace reliever Mitch Atkins, who was sent to Iowa.

QUOTE Outfielder Reed Johnson was put on the disabled list before the game because of a non-displaced fracture in his left foot. Though initial projections had Johnson missing a month after he fouled a ball off his foot Wednesday, Hendry said that projection was adjusted.

''I talked to the doctors today, and I don't think anybody thinks it's going to be 30 days now,'' Hendry said. ''Maybe 15, we're hoping for.''
