Grabass kinda sucks. He's also better at getting righties out, I do believe.

He's got a decent era, but he walks WAY too many. He's got modest splits against lefties, but walks almost as many as he K's. If they just want a warm body lefty, you'd assume they could find someone in the minors??

I already have a feeling I'm going to hate this guy.

On a positive note, the Pirates have traded just about every decent player on their team.

We have more games remaining against the Pirates than any other team (9). Hopefully the Cubs can beat the Pirates AAA team.

That's good news for the Cubs. At least for this season.
The Pirates are doing exactly what they should be doing: trading mediocre vets for promising kids. They may be tough in 2012, but till then, hopefully they'll continue to be a doormat.

Nyjer Morgan is not an aging vet.

The problem is that the Pirates do this EVERY year. They've sucked for 20 years. So they get good draft picks every year and then trade them away when they get to be any good.

They had stupendously bad GM's until they hired Huntington.

Maybe they'll look for a Matt Morris out there this year.
I hate my pretentious sounding username too.

Good overall pitcher... but not very good at getting out lefties. He'd improve our bullpen, but not for the reasons we were really hoping to.

Would it really take that much to get the 40-year-old Arthur Rhodes who is on a team out of contention?

I have never really understood teams trading away their best players each deadline. I would think teams would want to keep really good players, regardless of cost, since the cost of signing good free agents is just going to rise, and there are no guarantees that the young players they pick up will pan out. However, in the case of the Pirates, most of the higher paid veterans they traded aren't very good.
