Remaining Schedule
#61
The one that stood out to me about just trying to get the game over with as fast as possible was Saturday's game against the Mets. It was nationally televised (which adds like 10-15 minutes to a game because of longer breaks for commercials), 15 runs were scored, and the game took under 2:45.

Nice use of gaVinas!

I sound like the typical over-optimistic Cub fan, but with such a weak schedule in front of us, I would like to see us reel off a little 8-2 run; it might at least make the late Sept. games worth watching, because the WC is not that OOTQ.
There's nothing better than to realize that the good things about youth don't end with youth itself. It's a matter of realizing that life can be renewed every day you get out of bed without baggage. It's tough to get there, but it's better than the dark thoughts. -Lance

Have the Cubs given up on the season? Because, if they haven't, I'd like to know why in the hell
D Lee wasn't playing in the Mets game.

Most of the guys on the site have a kid or two, and thus you know full well how little Lee had to "be there for his wife" for a 2nd missed game. There are usually LOTS of family around, friends, medical people, nannies (in their case, likely), etc.

That fucker is making $13 million dollars for 6 months of baseball. I don't begrudge him a missed game to see his child born, but a 2nd game, in September?

They clearly have given up....and as such, Lou should be fired.

That's the thing. Lou has looked exasperated since last year's playoffs. He can't even form full sentences when answering questions on a daily basis. Does anyone really expect him to get any better by next season. It's obvious this team needs new leadership, and the sooner the better.

I've given up on listening to WGN radio until the Cubs this season. If I could mute Santo, I'd be fine, but I cannot deal with him this season. He seems to flip out every time ANYTHING negative happens to the Cubs. Whether that's a walk, single, error... whatever. He never adds anything useful any more and just freaks out.

I wonder if the brass ever has meetings where Xanax or Valium is suggested for Santo. I'm not being facetious; Andy is one of many people who have said that Santo is just too over-the-top emotional to listen to as a professional announcer.

It might save his job. And think of how fun it would be if the side effect was that it made him slightly loopy.

No matter what you think of him (and I love him), Santo isn't going anywhere. People that listen to the games on the radio do so for 1 of 2 reasons, either they love listening to Pat and Ron and will mute their TV to listen to them or they have no alternative (in the car, at work, etc.). People who fall into the latter category aren't going to stop following the Cubs games because of Ron. So there's no downside to keeping him. On the flip side, if they fire hiim, they risk a gigantic backlash, including people who don't really listen on the radio much. Santo will be there until his health won't allow it.
