Remaining Schedule

So we are about a .600 club with ARAM in the lineup. IF he can finish the year and we hold at that level that puts us at about 87-88 wins. The last 5 years it has taken between 88 - 90 wins to be the wild card. We are within range. There are too many other teams to look at all the schedules but just looking at Col & SF. We can do this.

only 12 games against teams with a +.500 record LA 4, Sux 1, Cards 3, and SF 4.

SF
23 games with LA, COL, PHI, CHI

Our next 23 games are relatively easy, with most of them at Wrigley. Then we have three at St. Louis.

Let's go 17-6 and make those 3 games in St. Louis mean something. What say ye, boys?

If we went 8-2 and STL went 4-6 we'd be 4 games out.

I don't think there is much chance of catching the Cardinals. I am thinking more of the Rockies coming on hard times. Facing LA after a long night and used up bullpen from 15 inning. pitching match ups favor LA.

I am grasping at anything at this point. No sense in giving up after 4 months until there is no hope.

What if, by some freak chance, the Cubs start playing modestly well and the games against the Giants mean something? That would be cool. But then again, who am I fooling? That's not going to happen. Not this season.

Well, we just finished off a 5-5 homestand against some of the worst teams in baseball, so if we even manage to play .500 it will be something IMO.

What really stinks is that our pitching staff is still competing and keeping us in games. Our offense though continues to be an embarrassment, and is actually getting worse.

I was at the Wednesday game with a friend from out of town, who isn't a Cubs fan, and it was easily the quickest game I can recall seeing. He was commenting how the game was the antithesis of a Red Sox/Yankees game, which tend to go on for ever, and how at this game, there was the feeling of the team just wanting to finish and go home. Of course, Lilly was great, and that was partly why it was quick, but still...there is definitely that feeling. And from what I heard, the apathy was even worse yesterday. It's kind of sad.
