You have to assume Z goes on the DL, if only because they'll need a reliever. They can backdate it to the day after his last start and he'd be eligible to come off the DL in 8 or 9 days.

I'm seeing Samardzija hitting 95-97 on his fastball on game day. I really think they need to just try to make him a reliever. He can still be effective as a reliever with that kind of speed and one somewhat decent secondary pitch.
