she told me last night that she was flipping channels and saw on entertainment tonight the opening of "inglorious basterds." she said she thought she heard brad pitt say that "quentin has a script for a prequel to 'true romance' and i'm in." anyone else see this? and if so, how is that going to work? it's pretty much a self-contained story with little of no back story. don't get me wrong, i'd be totally geeked for it, but i don't see how it could be done. is she confusing "pulp fiction" with "true romance"?
and for the record, i don't just love the movies tarantino directed, but every movie he's been involved with. he wrote "true romance" and "natural born killers" (though he has distanced himself from that) and had a part in the productions of "desperado" and "killing zoe." i love all those movies.

The only two movies on that list that I didn't care for were Jackie Brown and From Dusk til Dawn. I've never seen Killing Zoe. I would rank them like this:
1. Pulp Fiction
2. Kill Bills
3. Resevoir Dogs
4. Desperado
5. True Romance
6. Grindhouse
7. Natural Born Killers
8. Jackie Brown
9. FDTD

Killing Zoe was kind of a fucked up movie if I remember right. I can't fucking wait for Basterds.

True Romance contains two of my all-time favorite scenes:
1. Slater confronting Gary Oldman. "He musta thought it was white boy day. It ain't white boy day, is it?" "Nah, man. It ain't white boy day."
2. Dennis Hopper explaining the origins of Sicilians.

I loved both parts of FDTD. I know people are partial to one or the other, but I thought both directors married them together well.

I liked from FDTD a lot, and I thought the "shift" into the second half was hilarious -- especially if you don't see it coming the first time.

i can't see the video on my work computer, so i'll wit til i get home.
i loved the first half of "dusk" but thought the second half was silly.
the hopper/walken scene is one of the greatest ever. two first ballot hall of famers at the top of their game. i loved "white boy day" but actually thought the gandofini/arquette scene and the final shootout were better.
and as far as directors go, tony scott has directed a number of my favs:
1. true romance
2. crimson tide
3. the last boy scout
4. man on fire

Gary Oldman is quite possibly my favorite actor of this era. Love his roles in Leon, True Romance, Sid and Nancy, JFK, Hannibal, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead, etc. This may be the fanboy in me talking, but I don't think Oldman has ever turned in a performance that was less than par. It's criminal his portrayal of Sirius Black in the Harry Potter movies was so underutilized and was but a footnote.

dude, his performance in "the professional" was awesome as well. and don't forget "bram stoker's dracula", "romeo is bleeding", and the batman movies.

Oldman was also quite good in that movie about Beethoven. Immortal Beloved. He is a great actor.

He was insane in Sid and Nancy. Very underrated film by Alex Cox, who fell off the planet after Repo Man and a few other bizarre films.
