Zambrano

The point is, you don't ask questions like that to a player immediately after a game. If they wanted to ask him today that's one thing, but you don't ask him a series of stupid, smarmy, ill-informed questions (none of which had anything to do with his performance) right after a win, and I don't care how he pitched last night.

I saw the interview live. He was asked about the rumors. His first response was basically "Are you guys the GM now?" The guy, I don't know who, continued and Carlos said if the Cubs were to ask him to waive his NT clause it would be because they didn't want him anymore and what could he do. The guy asked so he would wave the NT clause and Carlos said Do I want to? of course I don't want to, what kind of question is that and ended the interview.

That was pretty much about it. Barely one question about the game or his pitching. This city is filled with douchebag journalists.

Hope he retires a Cub with multiple World Series rings on his fingers while modern day World Series banners fly at Wrigley.

I don't believe Z will be traded in the offseason but I do believe I will read about 50 articles regarding the Cubs "willingness" to move him.

He was pretty good tonight. 2-hit CG shutout and outdueled Lincecum, drove in 2 out of our 3 runs.

Suck it, Sully.

Anyone notice how Marquis has been pitching lately? Where are all the douchebags crying about the Cubs trading him now? He does the same shit every season -- and Steve Stone (and whoever else) should have known better.

And I love Z. Trading him would be moronic. Sully needs to shut the fuck up forever.

Marquis is taking the 2nd half off as he normally has throughout his career. His 2nd half ERA is around 0.80 points higher than his 1st half (career it's about 0.70 higher). Anyone who is shocked by this (Phil Rogers) doesn't know anything about baseball.

You are right. He's like clockwork; every single year, he kicks ass in the first few months, then fades to the point of being near useless.

So the obvious question is: why did Hendry get rid of him in the winter, instead of in May or June?

I don't think other GMs out there would have overvalued him after another typically good first half. His track record speaks for itself, and they are aware of this. And if Marquis had still been on the team, we wouldn't have gotten a good look at Wells. I'm glad we traded him when we did.

Before it gets lost in the shuffle, I just wanted to once again mention how refreshing it was to see Big Z totally kick ass. A 2-hit shutout, beating the best pitcher in the league, and even cracking a couple hits.

<!--quoteo-->QUOTE <!--quotec-->Peavy For Zambrano?
By Zach Links [September 27 at 12:42pm CST]

While its purely speculation at this point, there has been some buzz recently regarding a Second City swap of Jake Peavy and Carlos Zambrano. Peavy, as you may remember, listed the Cubs as a team he was willing to be traded to when the Padres first looked to move him. Zambrano has solid numbers for the year, posting an ERA of 3.69 and 8 strikeouts per 9 innings.

With just two starts in black and white, people are already wondering if Peavy will be a part of the team's 2010 plans. Big Z has had a very strong September (2.81 ERA, 38 K's in 32 IP) but frustrations on the north side of Chicago have put every Cubbie under the gun.

Starting in 2010, the continuation of Peavy's contract will pay him $52MM over three years plus a club option. Zambrano will earn $53.75MM in the next three years with a vesting player option for 2013 worth $19.25MM.

Could an intra-city trade of this magnitude ever happen? Should either team pursue such a trade or is this simply a case of the grass being greener on the other end of the Windy City?<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->
