I'd like to believe it. I certainly hope it. Two years is a long time in sports...there will be stars in MLB that aren't even on the radar now. Some of them might be Cubs.

I think 2012 is going to be the big year for Cubs prospects. Those guys will probably have a shot, but you and I both know the Cubs aren't too keen on rushing guys to the majors (besides Samardzija).

You're right, and I continue to be not so sure about that strategy, you know? It seems like there are a LOT of young guys who get pressed into emergency type service, and really turn up their game at the ML level long before anyone thought they'd be ready.

The Current team is built to compete one more year, so MB will be here next year. However, corner OF are two of the easiest postions to fill. I think 2011 will bring a lot of changes. Fuk and Bradley should both be gone. The Cubs can spend their money up the middle. The possible RFers in the Cub system have already been mentioned, but there are also other teams castoffs. In our division, Johnny Gomes and Ryan Ludwick( in '07 now makes 3.7 mil) were both signed as minor lea free agents and have both out produced Bradley this year.
I like you guys a lot.

I'm wondering if the Ricketts are not going to just clean house.... Hendry, Lou, Milton, etc... They have free pass for a while...a blame the Trib card. This is their chance to build an organization the right way. Cubs fans are generally smart enough to tolerate a rebuilding - if it is exactly that. As much as people want to win, and want to win now, they know that there is a better way to win than what Hendry has done.

If they really want to, the Ricketts could scrap any parts that won't be a part of the 2013 or 2014 World Series Champs and build for that. Account for the need to do some work on the park, and the triangle building...and embark on a true long term vision to make this team a winner. Stop the quick fixes. Start truly developing guys. It wouldn't be a slam dunk - but the Trib was never willing to try it, so that's a sign that it is probably a good idea.

If they endorse this organization (Hendry, Lou, etc.) and bring them back, along with most of the same cast of characters, and just try to bolt on to it, I would be very surprised. Then again, they brought Crane Kenney with them - I have no idea whatfor.

I tend to agree. Ricketts won't come in and order wholesale changes so soon. I think it will take him a season or so to get into the job and start building a new organization. It won't be overnight, and I wouldn't want it any other way. He's new to the business and needs to formulate his plan carefully and intelligently, unlike the current regime.
