Another thing that would have helped: Soto showing up in shape and hitting.
I don't know if his fitness would have kept him off the DL earlier in the year but it wouldn't have hurt this team.

Remember the shitty teams that the Cubs beat in 2008. The schedule in 2008 had us play some more bad teams - Pirates, Nats, etc - in the first half of the year than the second half. The Cubs had momentum heading into the second half of the season and lead to us trading for Harden.

We were able to beat quality teams in 2008 though. Not so this season. Not even close.
That said, I'm actually a little impressed that we've remained over .500 throughout all this.

Not only did Aramis miss all those games, but he also hasn't been 100% since he's been back. So I think we would've won at least 3-4 games, but most likely more than that.

I think we'd be in the playoffs without the Aram injury, yes.
I think there were things that have gotten us in in spite of it though. They've all been mentioned.

It's really difficult to give much of a shit about what this team has done lately, especially since it's been mostly against mediocre to bad teams. It's been over for weeks and a decent run down the stretch doesn't change the fact that they completely shit the bed when it mattered.
As far as Aramis goes - sure it hurt but I still don't think this team sniffs the playoffs even if he's healthy all year.

I think a healthy Ramirez gets this team into the playoffs. A healthy Ramirez fixes the 3B problem, helps the 2B problem, makes the lineup infinitely more potent, and probably turns a bunch of those quality starts that ended in L's into W's. The Cubs are 16-22 in one run games, if Ramirez plays all year, I think you can probably flip those numbers. If Ramirez plays 140 games this year, I'd be willing to bet the Cubs make the playoffs.

You guys do agree that Soriano sucking balls all year was much more damaging than missing Aram for a stretch, though, right?
