I know it's typical for every fan to overrate his own team's prospects, but that top five looks pretty decent. The only problem is that Castro and Lee are really young (teenagers, right?) and won't be able to help the big-league club till probably 2013 or something.

BTW, I bet that instead of moving Vitters to 1st, we end up moving Aramis to 1st.

Problem is, the general feeling seems to be Vitters won't be able to handle 3B at the major league level. I think he will be moved to either 1B or corner OF. I don't think Vitters will be an everyday guy for us til 2012 anyway, by then who knows if Aramis will even still be on the team.

Is Vitters really that fielding-challenged at third? I knew he wasn't Brooks Robinson, but to move him to 1B or corner OF would diminish his value considerably.
There's nothing better than to realize that the good things about youth don't end with youth itself. It's a matter of realizing that life can be renewed every day you get out of bed without baggage. It's tough to get there, but it's better than the dark thoughts. -Lance

Trade value, yes...unless he rakes.
If Angelo had picked McClellin, I would have been expecting to hear by training camp that kid has stage 4 cancer, is actually 5'2" 142 lbs, is a chick who played in a 7 - 0 defensive scheme who only rotated in on downs which were 3 and 34 yds + so is not expecting to play a down in the NFL until the sex change is complete and she puts on another 100 lbs. + but this is Emery's first pick so he'll get a pass with a bit of questioning. - 1060Ivy

What I've read is that his range is more of a concern than anything. I've heard he has good hands and a very strong throwing arm.

Personally, I would like to see him try a corner outfield spot. If he can play well and has a strong arm, it would be nice to fill the black hole we've had in right field.

By the way, if anyone read the story over at the Brickyard, Wilson Contreras was busted for steroids. Nobody here has heard of him, but he's a 17 year old catcher from Venezuela that the Cubs just signed to a $850,000 bonus (100k more than they signed Hak-Ju Lee for). This sucks big time.

I wonder if he was even able to take it long enough to do anything to him. I'm also curious to know if they can void his contract.

No, value, period. It is much easier to find a corner OFer or 1B who can hit than it is a 3rd baseman. Much.
The easier the position is to play, the easier it is to find guys to play it.

I'm not too concerned if we have to end up putting Vitters at 1B or the outfield just because we're loaded with infielders with great arms. If Castro is our future at shortstop, we have Flaherty, Lee, Watkins, LeMahieu, Barney, Junior Lake, Tony Thomas, Marquez Smith, Ping-Chieh Chen, Nate Samson, and Wes Darvill who could be tried there as well.

I think Flaherty, LeMahieu, and Smith could all have legitimate power if they develop well in our system.

Yep. He's one of the Taiwanese players the Cubs signed this summer. He reportedly signed for 300k.
